Waitlisted…Overall: 2 Waitlists, 11 Rejections

DerDeutscheMann keep up the faith. Kids do get into schools from the waitlists. PlainsmanYour point is well taken but for my child I would be concerned if I placed her in an enviornemnt that was too challenging. I want her to have a well rounded college experience and not have a nervous breakdown doing it. Also my daughter is going pre-med sot he sciences tend to be more work and have more difficult material then some of the other majors.

Waitlisters should definitely keep the faith. Just look on this thread and others at all the accepted students who have no intention of attending. (My son is probably in that category here…)
I have heard that between the record # of college apps nationwide and the stinking economy, many colleges will not have fully assembled their freshman class until July.
There will be chain reactions after May 1 as spots open in top schools and students fill those thus leaving open spots in the next level of schools and so on down the line.
I think that admissions offices are in for a wild summer.

Mattman sorry to hear this news! Things do work out, so don’t give up.

My S found out today he was waitlisted as well. We kinda wish it would have been clear cut “yes” or “no.” Now we need to decide whether he’ll visit (need to show them the love apparently) as we travel “east” to visit Ursinus, Clark U and Lawrence U (was accepted to those). The timing of travel plus decision-making during April is just ridiculous.

Plainsman, I like your Obama 50-state strategy analogy. :)
We did something similar, although not consciously.
My S was accepted to 4 “match,” 3 “reach” 2 “safeties” -
rejected from one super reach and one safety,
waitlisted at 1 match (Muhlenberg).
Waiting on the last two super reach, hope they come in Monday.

We had great advice from one of the college counselors we worked with regarding the “reach” and “super reach” :
“Let the college decided on your admissibility and fit”

Still nothing. I think we’ll call on Monday.

benel: Dickinson was also a reach for my D, frankly. I originally categorized it as a “match” but it really wasn’t. The odd thing is, not only did she get into two reaches, but they offered the best financial aid. The biggest reach to which she was accepted (Oberlin) is the only school that offered her a scholarship! She was offered a John F. Oberlin Scholarship for four years, no minimum GPA required. Her matches offered nothing but grants and loans. How much sense does that make? You would think it would be the other way round. This is why it pays to apply to some schools that appear - based on stats - out of one’s league.

I still can’t believe my D got into Oberlin, and they’ve offered a merit scholarship! Maybe they made a mistake? Got some names mixed up? You think? In some ways this “surprise” feels bittersweet because my D really does like Muhlenberg. Best of all, Muhlenberg is only 8 miles from our house. They’ve offered only a one year grant of 15K and loans (which we don’t want).

Nice! Oberlin is special.

Benel…my son also in a Ursinus, Gettysburg, Clark U, Washington College, Penn State(2+plan). Northeastern (Spring ?).

Wailisted…Muhlenberg, TCNJ, Syracuse…Also, waiting a way-beyond reach on Tuesday…we will not be going crazy to access the website…we can be very patiently rejected.

A lot of admissions days to try to make!
Good Luck…

My son has been waitlisted at Muhlenberg. He heard on Friday, I think. Accepted at UScranton, Wash&Jeff, Manhattanville, 1-2 others. So some decisions to make…

Anyone else still waiting on scholarship notification? D has gotten a couple of letters since her acceptance, but nothing about FA…

My son got a merit based scholarship but we still haven’t heard anything on need based aid or on honors programs. You can’t really make good decisions without all the $$$ info sitting in front of you so I hope it all comes soon.

Waitlisted today. Will probably not stay on the waitlist because there wouldn’t likely be merit aid at this point.

Just thought I would pass on that I spoke with one of the Muhlenberg admission counselors today regarding my S being waitlisted.
Told them he definitely wanted to consider Muhlenberg as one of his top 3.
She was very friendly and helpful, told me that communicating our intention and enthusiasm would move him into the “top tier” of their waitlisted students.
(So if you want to stay on the waitlist, be sure to call them)

She also asked about our need for FA (we would not qualify given our EFC); I suppose this is another factor (per the recent articles in the news) that might move a student higher or lower on the list. That wasn’t stated or implied, but I can only surmise.

I asked about stats regarding # of student they take from waitlist. Historically it is about 35 or so who join the freshman class from being waitlisted (although probably more were offered admission). She was unable to give me the # of people on the waitlist now.
That seems like pretty decent odds to me, though if Muhlenberg is indeed one of your top choices, and you have a belief you are in the “top tier” of waitlisters.

Anyway, I was quite impressed with her welcoming without promising attitude.

Hope this is helpful.
