Is anybody here taking the CLEP?

As in the title line is anybody taking th clep?
Does any of the good schools or ivy's (or where you are applying/applied) take the CLEP?
For those who didn't or wont take it is it because your college doesnt accept it.
As far as I saw there are much more courses offered and the exams are easier (not college level more like high school sat subject test kind) and they dont contain any free response open ended questions. And the grading apparantly is easier (it's i think out of 80 and u need a 50, correct me if i'm wrong).
Any info would be good? that's all!

oh and post here if you never heard of it, or dont know what it is .

I know that ASU takes CLEP scores, but I never considered taking any of the exams. I always thought they were for people who never finished high school, who want to enter college.

go to collegeboard.com and look up the school u want to go and look under the AP/SAT ACT section of teh school profilr and it will list if that school takes teh CLEP tests. many topschools don't

Since the exams are much easier than APs, I was never really interested. I feel that, if I'm already willing to sacrifice time to study for an exam, it might as well be worth it. Also, I plan on applying to many top schools, so it would be a waste for me....

ASU is not good.

^^

I wasn't talking about it for you, I was only talking about it for myself.

If you actually read my whole comment, I didn't answer any of your questions, so calm down, I was only making a statement.

Why don't you do your own work, and look for the colleges that accept CLEP credit by going here:

That was harsh. Right underneath christalena's name, it says 'Location: ASU 2011,' which obviously means that he/she's going to enroll there, so why would you try and ruin that for them?

CLEP and DANTES exams are popular with military members because they can take them at no cost. It is a good way to test out of material acquired from previous experience, and they allow one to earn credit during a work schedule that makes traditional college courses impossible. And, unlike AP exams, you do not have to be a high school student to take them.

What is a "good" school? Depends on who you ask... I know someone who received an undergraduate degree from ASU and will receive a Ph.D in Biology this summer.

brainless is weird..

Lack of Ivy League status doesn't imply 'terrible school'.

Nobody's going to ruin ASU for. Im proud of going there, and Ill be very happy that I decided to waste little money on a good undergraduate degree versus a HUGE amount for a degree of the near-same value.

Masters is where you've gotta spend the money for the name.

Minor thread necromancy here, but Grad. School can be much cheaper than Undergrad work at a name school, given the fact that you often get a graduate assistantship that covers tuition and most living expenses.

Personally, I'd try to go for the big scholarship opportunities at a state school for a Bachelor's degree, then follow that up with an assistantship at a university that is well-respected for the specialty that I want to pursue at a graduate level, given that I may get a chance to almost go for "free", provided my undergrad record was very solid.

But I can see why some folks would be willing to go into debt for certain undergraduate experiences.

All the schools my son applied to accept clep He has taken 3 so far Freshman Comp English Comp (schools vary on which one of these they take so he took both) and Analizing and interpreting Lit. He did not study for any of these and now has 6 english credits to the school he is going to. He may try US History next. If the school you are attending accepts them go for it. They cost less than AP and can be scheduled whenever you are ready. Check the collegeboard website

A 50 on CLEP is not from getting 50 answers right. These are College Board tests. It's like a PSAT math score of 50. Or a 50 is comparable to an SAT II score of 500 when the highest possible score is an 800. (It's still easy to get a 50, not arguing with that. Just explaining what a 50 means.)

I just took the Spanish Clep today and got a 62 on it so I got 6 credits at UNLV for next fall.
