Is anyone a classics major?

I'm interested in sitting in on a class, or maybe contacting a professor...

Also, can any Columbia students give me insight about the classics program there? I looked at the classics website and everything, but not too much info there.

I'm not a classics major, but I took lit hum with Deborah Steiner, a mythology professor, who was absolutely amazing. She knows her stuff and is really personable. Also, there's a professor who teaches a comedy past and present course that's amazing (forget her name though...) where the course is half classics and half contemporary texts. If you get to sit in on a class, try to take Steiner's mythology course or the comedy course. I'm sure either will give you a favorable (and accurate) portrayal of the classics program at Columbia. Good luck.

Her name is Elizabeth Scharffenberger. I took this class and really enjoyed it. Where else will you read Aristophanes and Lucian alongside John Waters and Kurt Vonnegut?

did Calvin and Hobbes work its way into the curriculum?

No, but The Simpsons and The Far Side did.
