lsmith are you making this stuff up? ;)

No, I'm not making it up....isn't that slightly insulting that you would even suggest that.

how would you walk to UCR? i don't know of any trailer parks near the school...

The park is down Magnolia ave. I could ride my bike.

okay, fine. You should at least visit UCLA or UCSD. I'd assume you'd get substantial financial aid since your parents are gone?

Are you going for the Thomas Haider program?
Be forewarned that its an extremely tough program; only 25 out of 200+ students get in.

"Yeah, I own it, my parents ran away and left it to me, and I live here alone. I maintain it by working part-time at Target. Now, what is so wrong with UCR??? I'm thinking of doing pre-med, do you know anything of that program?"

Wow, that's harsh. On second thought, you might just fit right in at UCR. Good luck.

UCRGrad

Seriously, why can't anyone give me good reason why Riverside is so bad??? Sure there's smog, trash, and maybe the occassional redneck, but how many people would get the chance to go to school so close to home, and at a top 100 school in the United States??

Honestly, it really depends on what you're looking for in a college. You live in Riverside. You actually like the place. Like most UCR students, you don't have a problem with its crap reputation. ...and if you make it into the Thomas Haider program, you may not mind the fact that they teach the 2nd year of med school in a trailer too. Again, good luck.

UCRGrad

well, in my group of friends we hate riverside for a variety of reasons. Most of us have grown up in suburban california so we're not accustomed to the terrible smog and the heat of desert. The city isn't very safe; a lot of crime happens, hookers, hobo's etc. Academics are bad, many of the students aren't bright or motivated. Nothing to do in the city itself, have eto drive a good hour to do anything remotely fun.

What do you mean they teach the 2nd year in a trailer? What kind of program does that? I didn't realize they taught in a trailer? I mean it's fine to live in one, but to go to school in one......

they hold classes in a trailer becuase the school doesn't have enough space to have classes anywhere else.

I don't understand why you won't consider LA? have you even visited? Sure, it'll probably be harder to get better grades but imo the expereince will be MUCH better than goign to school at UCR.

Ok, here's my choices:
UCR
UCLA
UCSD
Lake Superior State
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Cal State, Fullerton
John's Hopkin's
It's so confusing, I don't know what to do....But I definetly lean towards UCR.

Oh, definitely UCLA or UCSD if you want to stay in CA. Michigan and Hopkins are excellent too. Honestly, my opinion is that the best thing you can do is GET OUT OF RIVERSIDE. I mean, you worked hard enough during HS to get accepted to excellent colleges. Why blow all of that away by going to a no-name school, just cuz it's down the street from you?? It's tempting to stay with things that are familiar to you - you live in Riverside, you own a trailer, etc. ...but it's hard to grow as a person if all you've ever seen is RIVERSIDE. There are so many other great places to spent 4 years of your life. You will meet much more interesting people, with diverse backgrounds, motivation, etc. if you leave the conundrum of The 909. Seriously. You won't actually realize this until you leave. I've met plenty of people from the IE...those that never leave are sucked into a blackhole of Riversidedness and they don't even realize it. Think about it.

Maybe I should consult my pastor on the matter? I find that in these hard times one must put their faith in the Lord. Don't you all agree? If there's anything Riverside has taught me, it has taught me to have faith.

for such a bright person you are naive. I don't mean that as an insult; i just think you haven't seen much of California or the world. Riverside may be fine to you because you haven't lived anywhere else. To pass up great schools such as John Hopkins or UCLA makes me sad...

Oh that may be true, I may be naive, I admit I haven't seen much of this great country of ours, but I do know the potential which lays within Riverside. I really believe it will become the next Laguna Beach.

You guys actually believe Lsmith?? I doubt he got admitted to UCLA, UCSD, Johns Hopkins and UM. He/she can't probably even afford to apply to all of these universities. I haven't met anyone who picked UCR over UCLA. A lot of students claim to do so to make a point that not all students at UCR are subpar compared to other UC campuses.

i believe Lsmith because he knows the area around UCR, so at least that part may be true.

And people do choose UCLA over UCR; mostly for financial reasons. My friend, choose a full ride at UCR over UCLA. He hates UCR though, commutes to school even though he gets free room.

How dare you! You seem to be another of these so-called UCR critics.
I can too afford to apply to all those schools. You'd be surprised at how much money you can make recycling bottles.

Actually, I got into UCSB, and that place completely sucks.
