I am very happy and excited to be attending Cornell (I doubt that i will attend Brown even if I am accepted from the waiting list), but I am also scared. Cornell is known for being one of the most, if not the most, stressful and rigorous of the Ivy League. I think that my major of Computer Science may make thigns even worse? What if I fail? What if I get a low GPA? What if I am unable to have a social life? I'm nervous. Does everyone else think that this is normal? Does anyone else feel this way?

Don't worry, everyone tells me it's natural. Like you, I'm in the class of '11, I'm I feel like I'm bout to **** my pants when I think about the work (especially since I was sorta a lazy kid in hs). We just need to know that as long as we balance our time, we'll have enough free time to chill w/ friends, work, and enjoy the college experience. Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy happy thoughts (like the fact that we're about to live on our own & make our own schedules).
anyways, if ya feel like the worry is gettin to be too much, message me. We can talk what to look forward to

Don't stress. If you were successful enough at high school to get accepted to Cornell's computer science program, then you have what it takes to be successful at Cornell academically. Just manage your time well, and you will have plenty of time to get good grades and still get involved in EC's and have a good social life.

But if you do get there and feel as if you are having any academic difficulties, make sure you get help right away from one of the many sources available to you there. Cornell -- and all other schools -- want you to be successful and have people and programs there who can help kids with academic and other issues.

CS isn't that bad; if you put in a little effort you definitely won't fail.

i am actually.....scared toooooo
i am in ILR tho......that' fear came right after i got my decision in Mid December.....and now....it came back again.....

Cornell wouldn't accept u if they didn't know you can do the work and do it well. YOU CAN! It's all up to you now.

Everyone is nervous about the social aspect when going into college. But believe me, it is SO much better than highschool! It is so easy to make great friends. Think about it like this: thousands of people are looking for friends. They are looking for best friends. They are nervous just like you. You have the potential to make some great friends in the first couple months. You also have the opportunity to make a lot of them. Just be outgoing and let people know wat u r like. U will find friends, don't worry. Just rotate urself around groups. Find a few friends from ur Orientation group and go to lunch w/ different ones and find if u like any of the people they hang out with. On about the 3rd day in I followed one of my O-friends into dinner and ended up hanging out with some random people he knew. Well guess wat, those random people are now my BEST friends!
You will have fun, don't worry. Don't sweat it and make sure to be outgoing. Everyone is in the same situation as u. Best of luck! U r gonna have a great time!!! College is AMMMMAZING!!!!!!

Thank yall, nice to know I am not the only one.

sexylikeascorpio: dont worry..you're definitely not the only one...or at least worry about it later..just enjoy your second term of senior year and your upcoming summer vacation...i know i will be really stressed out especially i'm majoring chemical engineering...i don't know if i can handle engineering..

Thats the thing, since I got accepted HEOP I will not have a "summer vacation" so to speak. The day after I graduate, June 23, I will be leaving to go to the mandatory pre-freshman seminar at Cornell. I am excited about it though, even though I will be taking at least one class that counts towards my credit. I think I will feel better about Cornell after this because at the seminar I can get classes bettering my skills in studying, math, english or etc. I don't know which improvement courses I will choose, though.

I hope you enjoy HEOP. I applied for it but I wasn't eligible for some reason. It turned out to be a blessing because I really didn't want to spend my summer vacation away from my friends. You're taking the right attitude about it though. You'll know your way around campus and have a head start on making friends.

So I mine as well ask now cuz I never knew...wat's HEOP? heh

higher educational opportunity program... mostly for people who are economically disadvantaged.

a program for NY residents to attend college who would otherwise not have the opportunity due to various economic, social reasons, etc. it provides a bunch of different services to help you succeed in college.

and HEOP is for the private colleges, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is for the contract colleges.

so that's just for residents?? cool i didn't know...
