I plan on calling tomorrow.

I think I applied for priority. So I still have a little while longer to wait?

Thanks for your help!

Good luck with the call, julieann.

My Common App was downloaded 01/09 and the Supplement on 01/23 guilty wince.

Then again, as an international student, perhaps they review them in different groups. I got an email from the intel admin office, Ms. Corine Andersen, reminding me to send in my Supplement because she was goin' through her applications and some were unfinished. I imagine they have more domestic applications to go through than international ones.

I'm sure the phone call will bode good news!

I just got into Knox today with good merit aid. I don't know how I will ever be able to choose where to go. At least this is better than being rejected everywhere.

ShadowOfAnEnigma, I feel like I'm in the same boat. So many good schools (Austin College, Knox, Lawrence, Coe, Ohio Wesleyan) that I won't be able to choose. And I'm still waiting to hear from seven schools in the next few weeks!

I'm also in Texas, so the only school I've visited is Austin. I don't know how to choose!

TSSSIL, we must have a lot in common! At this point, I have to choose between Beloit, Coe, Earlham, Goucher, Kalamazoo, Knox, Lawrence, Lewis and Clark, and the U of MN: Morris. Plus I am still waiting on 8 schools (although I am about 95% sure I will only get into one of them).
I live in Minnesota, but I have only visited Beloit so far, and that was only for about an hour in the summer. I will have a busy month and a half ahead of me for sure!

PS: Getting accepted to Knox today was extra special because it was a birthday present. :) If this is any indication, my 18th year should be a fortuitous one.

That's awesome! Happy birthday! I got accepted to Knox about a week before my birthday back in November for the priority app, so that was fun.

The schools I'm waiting to hear from are all reaches save Beloit. Ironically, my counselor sent in my app fee waiver to Beloit WAY late and I only threw Beloit in at the last minute as an app, so I don't expect too much from them. But, I'm still waiting to hear from Macalester, Grinnell, Bard, Whitman, Trinity College, Colorado College, and Oberlin. They are all on the reach level of the match scale for me, so we'll see how that goes. In all honesty though, I'm almost so tired of waiting that I'm just almost ready to send in a deposit to either Knox or Lawrence- so much waiting is growing old!

I am waiting to hear from Allegheny, Carleton, Grinnell, Haverford, Macalester, Oberlin, Swarthmore, and Wesleyan. Like I said, I am all but guaranteed rejections from everywhere but Allegheny, which sent me what may or may not be a likely letter. I decided to apply to these places despite the astronomical odds against my acceptance because, hey, who knows what might happen. Good luck to you and everyone else waiting for news!

My D recieved her admission letter from Knox on her B-day as well!
She did not apply to any reachy schools so it came as no surpirse that she got into all of them. Yesterday she received her fin award letter and it is good!
Those people are generous! On top it is written with such clear language and everything is explained- what cost what, how much to pay if you choose montly option, how much if per term.
Now she still has to decide which place she will be going.... and I will be devastated if it is not Hard Knox...

Hey, everybody. Wow, ShadowOfAnEnigma and TSSSIL, you have so many acceptances already! I have only three- Knox (found out through email on Valentine's Day! A way to make up for the fact that I have no boyfriend to send me choccies!), Beloit (wow, we have that in common!) and Cornell College.

Got rejected by Wesleyan (was a reach for sure) and the rest of our list overlaps a bit. I'm awaiting Carleton, Grinnell, Bates, Middlebury and Mount Holyoke. Best of luck, TSSSIL and Shadow! If I don't get accepted by the others on my list, I'm going to have a tough time choosing between Beloit and Knox!

(By the way, did any of you attend the Knox chat March 8th? I couldn't; I was on an airplane (silly time difference) and was wondering if any of you had any vibes about the student life/body there...)

Lindalana, the I-20 and other intel forms I received with my packet were really clear (what I read through. I was too busy ogling the certificate for my scholarship. :p ) and that was something my parents really appreciated. I know between Beloit and Knox (which gave $2,000 more) I'm going to really struggle. I only wish I could visit the campus because, on paper/computer screen, they seem really alike! tears out hair

Izzy, I will be visiiting Knox in a couple of weeks and Beloit a bit after that. I know it won't be the same as actually going yourself, but I will be sure to share my experiences with you. I'll try to take lots of pictures and keep detailed notes to share with you.
I did also go the the chat on the 8th. Everyone seemed no nice. I could only stay for an hour, but people there seemed very freindly and helpful.

Shadow, oh, wow!

Thank you! I'm so blown away by your offer. I'd absolutely appreciate that. It'll be interesting to see what type of pictures/parts of the campus prospies think are important vs. what colleges put on their sites.

I've been able to go to Beloit's chats with current students, but unfortunately only attend Knox's chats held for intels, which are held with the admin officers. I do feel this put Beloit at an advantage (perhaps unfair one) of allowing me to have an idea of what the student body is like. sigh Oh, if only I had money and time to fly... flaps my imaginary wings

Julieann - I hope the phone call bought good news!

Shadow, could I have some of those notes/pictures as well?

Of course! I will also be visiting Coe, where I seem to remember you were accepted as well. BTW, where are you from?

Izzy I am a parent but I have visited both Knox and Beloit several times. If you have any specific questions, ask away I will try to give you my impressions.
These are tow distinctly different colleges. Atmosphere is different. You will like either one or other.

Knox and Beloit similar- both are small LAC, located in small midwestern cities. These cities have seen better days but when some important companies left towns, things slowly went downhill and now you can see struggling small towns which have seen better days. There are few nice small shops in downtown area of Galesburg and Beloit, but nothing that really interesting. But again you are not coming to Knox or Beloit to be at those towns.
Both colleges have excellent faculty, caring and very knowledgable. Very accessible as well.
The main difference is in student body. One of the major reason students go to Beloit-nobody from my school goes there. Students tend to have some non traditioinal views and were somewhat outsiders in their own HS. They have acitve imagination and and happily participate in all kind of plays, games etc. Science is not the strongest point for many of them. While Beloit has excellent academics, science is not on forefront of it. Of course, now that they building new science building things might change.

Knox has students middle of the road politically, with radical thinking inclinations. Lots of maturity I have seen maybe it is due to being treated like adults. Honor code is the rule and people respect it. Students are active in leadership, participating in trustee committee and such which also give many students feeling of self-awareness.
Strong syndrom of physics being lyrics- many students combine science major with art or theater. Administration and faculty are plain nice, we have seen very little evidence of trying to show off, pretence or to be impressive. It is more statement- we are what we are, see if you like it. That is why statement "are you Knox?" is so much descriptive.

My daughter and I have been to both Beloit and Knox. Our impression of Beloit was similar to lindalana's. The school had very bizarre sculpture (personally, I thought it was ugly) and sort of a radical feel to it. The campus was very nice. While my daughter liked Beloit at first, it didn't seem to keep her attention. Knox, with its beautiful library, seemed peaceful. Everyone there was very helpful and friendly. My daughter spent the night there and loved the classes. She said the professors were very engaging and really into their subjects. She is slightly worried about the school being so small. She is not a partier and is hoping to find other students there who like to do something besides drink. As for the town, you can walk to the downtown of Galesburg where there are some stores or for $3 you can take a cab over to the mall and Target. If I can answer any questions. let me know.

Does anyone know about the connections the busniess dept. has? As far as internships and job placement.

Thanks in advance.

Hi julieann87. I'm actually a senior at Knox and am currently looking at job opportunties for next year :) We actual have a Career and Pre-Professional Development Center that does things like that (and they are GREAT!) They set up fairs on campus with different internship opportunties as well as job fairs. They also advertise near by internship/job fairs (especially for the Chicago area) on campus. There's even a page on the Knox website for employers who are seeking to hire graduates. Any student can also go to the Career center at anytime and ask for alumni contacts. So say that you are interested in chemistry and would like to live in the St. Louis area, you could go to the Career center and ask for contact info on an alumni who works as chemist in St. Louis. And the alumni are always very helpful! I'm an education major and I had lunch a while ago with a Knox alum who is a retired teacher from the Chicago area. She was very helpful with all of my questions and even gave me her card to contact her when I start looking for a teaching positions. It's nice to have connections, especially in a competitive job market. Here's a link to the Career center page on the Knox website, in case you want to know more about all of the events that they're hosting this year. http://www.knox.edu/x998.xml
Hope this helps :)
