Is anyone going to the June 13th-14th orientation?

Does anyone know what time it’s starts and ends? I can’t find this information anywhere. Also have you started thinking about what classes you want to take? Should we know exactly what we want to take before we go so we can just punch it in on computers?

Check-in and Check-out

Thank you!

In regards to your second question, you’ll have one-on-one meetings with your advisor on day 2 of orientation to figure that all out. Depending on your major, you might be ‘pre-seeded’ into certain required classes, for example many College of Science students get placed in foundation level chemistry/bio/psych courses. You’ll see that type of information on what’s called a degree audit in your student packet when you check in.

@Peachy24 what major are you in? the format of the class registration differs a bit depending on the program

I’m majoring in neuroscience on the pre med track so I’d imagine that most of my classes are already predetermined

@Peachy24 Great! I just finished my first year (Biochemistry, Minor BNS, pre-med). I guess you’re here today, and academic advising should be tomorrow.

You’ll probably get to pick one elective no matter what. If you have AP credit, they’ll check with you to make sure you want to bump up a level. Normal classes will probably be 1) Intro Chem 2) Intro Biology 3) Intro Psych 4) Elective. If you’re APed out, they’ll substitute 1) Organic 2) Inquires (and you’ll pick which section you want, since they all have a different topic) 3) Biopsych 4) elective.

And like Jared said, everything is already pre-seeded, so getting into your core classes shoud not be any problem.

I hope everything goes smoothly!

Everything did go very smoothly today and yesterday. As I expected I had the basic chem,calc,bio, and foundations of neuroscience classes. I didn’t even have space to choose an elective so there was no stress on my part. Thanks for all the help! :slight_smile:

@Peachy24 Hope you had a good time at orientation overall! Feel free to shoot me a message with any other questions you might have about Northeastern or BNS (spoiler alert, I was the OL at your advising session).

@jaredstone4 Do they do any placement testing at orientation?

@ScreenName17 - No, there is no placement testing.

@nanotechnology Thank you. I know at orientation you choose classes, what if you took AP courses but the scores aren’t in yet? Do the counselors anticipate this, or do you need to do a schedule change once the scores are official? I’m sure AP courses can fulfill some requirements?

@ScreenName17 If you’re confident that you scored a 4 or 5 on the exam, your advisor will place you in the next level course. Should you happen to actually score a 3 or below, they’ll just adjust your schedule and place you in the lower course. It’s much easier to secure a seat in the more intro type courses, so they always give you the benefit of assuming you’ll get credit first.

@jaredstone4 Thank you!
