Is Anyone Having a Tough Time Deciding Between Berk and Davis?

If you want to major in Business, Engineering, English, History or Political Science, definitely go to Cal.

berkeley is definately better in all aspects of academics than davis. but if you had what it takes to get into berkeley, you might find davis to be a little easier. then you would really excel in davis and that always looks good. you wouldn't be as stressed or under a lot of pressure due to competition. but if you really do want to challened yourself- got for it...go for berkeley

Sorry hellothere77 but that is not true. Berkeley is not better than Davis is at Biomedical Engineering because Berkeley doesn't have Biomedical Engineering; they have Bioengineering. In addition Berkeley doesn't have a Med or Vet school on campus. Davis has better agricultural studies programs as well (they are the Aggies). I got into both schools and my friends at school are all pressuring me to go to Berkeley b/c they got into "Pre-Business", a major which doesn't really make an sense and forces you to go to graduate school just to have the "honor" of going to Berkeley. Although Berkeley is a great school they are slipping. The campus at Berkeley is no where near Davis' campus. The accessibility of professors at Davis trumps the complete inaccessibility of Berkeley's professors. If you want to be taught by a TA all the time in a class of 800-1300 go to Berkeley. If you want a kinder more welcoming environment without all the pomp and circumstance go to Davis and get a great UC education.

i definately have to check out ucd...its 15mins away....you guys are making me really decide between all my schools and not just ucsd and ucb anymore :(

It's so stressful making this big decision. There are a variety of things to consider. Remember, if you decide that you really dislike a school after the first year, you can work toward transferring. Inter-UC trransfers aren't the easiest route, but people do it. It will generally be easier to transfer from UCB to Davis than the other way around, though.

that is a great point anothercollegemom...as my son is 75% sure that he is going to attend Berkeley...but he did like Davis (and I really liked it!)....

I don't like the feel to cal - spending 4 years there would be tolerable but i would rather go to Davis and get both the advantage of an extremely good college education and being in an environment i enjoy.

frozenrope, it feels like such a permanent decision to the kids, doesn't it? i think it helps to let them know that people do change colleges sometimes and you don't have to be imprisoned for 4 yrs if you discover that you really dislike the place.

i like ucd because u dont have to go to a class have it be full go next door and watch the professor on a TV monitor because the school is so over crowded, i would rather hvae average classes and see my profesor in real life! i know thats true because i sat in on a class with a friend where we had to watch the econ teacher on tv. so annoying... and half the kids dont pay attnetion because its hard to watch a TV so its harder to learn.

has anyone visited this week?

in my cal rejection letter it said that berkeley admitted about 9,500 students. that's insaaane. were they counting transfer students?? hopefully that's that just incoming freshmen. it didn't specify in the letter. i was just wondering.

better than the UCLA reject letter. it went something along the lines of:

"We're sorry you're ugly. You can't come here, ever, but have a nice day anyway.

-UCLA"

^ haha.

I'm in the same boat as all of you, in at Davis and Berkeley and having a hell of a time trying to pick between them. Only difference seems to be that my parents like Davis over Berkeley (and I'm Asian!), and UCD is a lot cheaper too.

I just sent in my SIR to Davis. :)

congrats ^_^

So I ended up picking Berkeley. Although I loved the Davis campus, I just got more of a gut feeling for Berkeley. Also, I've lived in a suburban town all my life and I wanted to experience something different. The architecture can't be beat at Cal and I love the campus. I'm confident I made the right decision, but still a little nervous about college! To all who picked Davis, you made a good choice! So many people from my HS are going and I know I'll be visiting.

Yes, I feel the same way as you soccersarah017. I visited both Davis and Cal and ended up picking Cal. Davis is a really nice school... very "quaint." It's just that Davis didn't particularly impress me, but I fell in love while I was walking around Cal.

Now that's mind-boggling.

I know, they're kind of weird that way. My dad went to both schools and he likes Davis a lot more than Cal, then again he loves fighting stereotypes so I take everything with a grain of salt.

I'd listen to your dad - he knows you best and he knows both schools well. Good combo.
