Is anyone on CC visiting during their spring break?

Is anyone visiting Brown during their spring break or have visited already??

My spring break is from april 6th - 10th and my mum and i are doing the whole east coast college tour thing :)

has anyone stayed at the inn at brown? it’s on campus and is supposed to be rather decent… also what is there to do in providence besides the obvious “visit thayer street”??

thanks!

The Inn at Brown is nice, but its rooms can book up very quickly. No hair dryers, though (at least, not the last couple times I stayed).

If you are staying overnight in Providence, why not find a student to put you up? I think the Bruin club arranges those things.

My spring break is the week right after April 1, so if I get into Brown, only my death could stop me from visiting...

We're doing the east coast thing, too. I have a recommendation: Don't miss Amy's Place on Wickendon Street for breakfast before you head over to Brown! We did that in the fall of 2007 on our visit to Brown, and it was one of our favorite stops on the trip. We loved it so much, that's how we're starting out our trip this time, even though we're really not spending much time in Providence. It's ecclectic, inexpensive, and serves great food.

Just Googled the address...214 Wickenden Street, Providence. Plan enough time to wait for a table, as it's very popular. We did a little window shopping/browsing on Wickendon to pass the time and had a table in about 30 minutes.

Have fun on your trip!

Well once you get to brown, take a trip on the trolley its really fun and interesting (its a mode of public transport). Thayer street is awsome, and there's a pizza place that's really nice right across from NY slice (think its called anthony's) where they serve GREAT pizza. The mall is two bus stops away, but its the same as well... every other mall? I went there for seven weeks, and explored this really great street (a bit far away) but I can't remember the name. Anyway, dont forget to just lay on the quad, or grab a frisbee and get a game of ultimate going. People on quad are usually active during good weather. Bring an umbrella, because when it rains, IT POURS. Other great spots are the sports center near thayer (can't remember names but I'm sure someone knows it) and the bears layer which is a game room and a mini gym all in one. Eat at a dining hall (I recommend the VW (called the V-dub by most) or Joe's, (but I've never eaten at Sharpe, called the rattie or something by students). Brown is an amazing place. You will love it!

I'm going! My spring break is the week of April 19th.. which is conveniently when ADOCH and TWW are. I wish I could go to Spring Weekend too but I don't think I'll be able to, even if it is outside.

It's Antonio's, and I agree that the pizza is quite good. I suggest stopping by just to look at the menu even if you aren't hungry or in the mood for pizza, as they have a wide variety of specialty pizzas like a Mexican one that has tortilla chips, avocados, and some other random stuff as topics, various seafood pizzas, and a bunch of others that I don't recall at the moment. Definitely worth a look though.

i'll visit if they want me to on the 31st...

if i get in, i might be able to visit during sb which is the week after decisions.

thanks everyone for all your replies!!

i'm definitely staying at the inn at brown, it looks nice and that way i'm in the center of campus
@fireandrain i'll make sure to bring a hairdryer :) and i would stay with a student but i'm travelling with my mum so i don't think that'll work

i'm going to drag my mum up and down thayer street and to antonio's :D i'm vegan, do you think i can still get something at antonio's??

i'm definitely visiting v-dub and roots and shoots at the ratty... gotta make sure i can survive if i get in next year!!

@desikin75 i will make sure to bring an umbrella... i kinda thought the weather would be pleasant but you're right/// better safe than sorry!

ps... has anyone heard of the peace pogoda in leverett, massachusetts?? looks interesting...

thanks to everyone who replied!! i'll post pics when i get back if anyone wants me to :)

Lemons: I am doing the same thing... visiting all east coast schools over that break! :)

Antonio's Pizza was amazingly cheap, too!

I visited over the Spring and when I asked "where should I pick up a bite to eat" from three different students, they all pointed in to the same pizzeria. :)

to anyone visiting, thayer street = love. oh, and if you want to be geeky and go to an awesome arcade/restaurant/bar, dave & busters is at the mall. providence is great for a small city...there is pretty much always something to do. i unfortunately have never really been able to take advantage of the city because 1) i have no car, and 2) i have no job, which means 3) i have no money.

@desikin75 - bring an umbrella! weather can be pretty random, so there's a good chance it could be 58 and sunny...but there's an equally good chance that it'll be 36, grey, and rainy. so come prepared for either possibility.

@lemons, kudos on being vegan, I've tried but couldn't sustain it for more than a few weeks at any given time. I think I'm going to stick with being vegetarian for the time being.
No idea whether you can get a vegan pie @ Antonio's though, but of all the pizza joints in all the world, a one that's right next to Brown's campus seems to have a solid chance of offering something along those lines.
A lot of my vegan friends go to the pizza shops near where we live and get pies that are just dough, sauce, and toppings. I've never found it very appetizing, but maybe it's more your cup of tea?

Nice Slice across from Antonio's has vegan pizza. And this conversation has been had many many times on this board but in my opinion (and most people I associate with) Nice Slice has far superior pizza to Antonio's. The selection is narrower but the quality of the crust (wheat blend) is miles above the flour cardboard at Antonio's. Aside from that Nice Slice has a great drink selection. China Cola, Red Bull Cola, a lot of the Boylan's drinks, Ginger Beer, Stewarts, etc etc. Pretty much all of the people I have taken to Nice Slice have become loyal customers. I brought a piece back for a Brown employee friend of mine who works on campus and this person loved the pizza so much she decided not to share it with her coworker LOL.

And...I don't like to get too close to Gordito Burrito since they gave me food poisoning.

If my D gets accepted tomorrow, I am going to book a flight out there to look around and tour the campus. Will we need a car rental? Or can we get around with public transportation? What is parking like near the campus if we do get a rental?

I will be visiting sometime between May 2nd and 5th

happy_sunflower: Parking near campus is tough. But so is finding a hotel within walking distance of campus. The only reason to have a car is to get from the hotel to the campus. If you can snag a room at the Inn at Brown, you won't need a car. And once you are on campus, you don't need a car. If you don't mind walking up steep hills, there are hotels downtown that you can walk to from campus.

don't forget the B&B's around Brown

There were hundreds of students that visited over the spring break.
