I'd like to hear about any really unusual places people are studying abroad. I know SIT has some interesting programs in places like Mongolia and Samoa.

I have major and strict dietary restrictions (by choice, but still...) so I think that leaves me mainly with choices in urban Europe, but...

SIT programs are amazing. I will be doing a program in Cochabamba, Bolivia and/or Oaxaca, Mexico with them. That's not TOO exotic but both are social revolutionaries and an interesting place to study since most Americans are too concerned about them being "safe". No where is safe, just perceived as safe.

The SIT programs look amazing, but can high schoolers do them? All I could find after a quick browse was that you had to have 1 semester of college-level coursework, which is pretty vague. I'm taking 4 AP's. Does that count?

A few other interesting programs and locations:

Semester at Sea, goes around the world on a ship!
Scholar Ship, a new program also on a ship
How about Morocco! ISA, Amerispan, SIT, and U of Kansas all go there.
Dominican Republic: a Spanish speaking program in the Caribbean - beautiful! ISA and CIEE go there.
Multi country: East Michigan Cultural History Tour - Europe or Asia...phenomenal programs!

I recently got admitteed to a "domestic study abroad" program at NYU. For one semester it costs around $25,000. With a scholarship, I still need to pull out a $15,000 loan. Is that to big of a loan for a semester over there?
