Is anyone submitting a photography portfolio?

I was planning on submitting an art supplement of photography. But now I’m starting to doubt myself. I listed it as one of my extracurriculars (I take portraits and family photos as a paid job) but I’m including “artsier,” like not commercial, shots.

Do you think it’s worth it? I’d say my photos are pretty good, as I put a lot of time and effort into them, but I’m scared it will backfire.

Maybe I should include a link to photos?

What a strangely specific question, but yes I am submitting a photography portfolio too! Photography is one of my main ECs and I wrote the common app essay about it haha. If you want, you can PM me a link to your photography and I’ll give you my opinion. But I doubt submitting them would backfire at all, it can only help really.

If I didn’t list photography as one of my extracurriculars, but it’s still a hobby that I enjoy, should I send in a portfolio (and if so, how?)? Or would there be absolutely no point in sending one in?

You submit portfolios through slideroom after checking “submitting art supplement” on the member questions part of the common app. If you check that, you can send one in up until the application deadline. If your photos are good (in both yours and an honest someone else’s opinion), then of course send in a photography portfolio! There is a point to sending it in!

What if you already sent in your common app? Is there still a way to send in a portfolio?

@wimmiett - is there a point in sending one in if you don’t intend to major in anything that involves photography?

Hmm well because I checked yes on submitting an art portfolio there is still a little common app tab for me to submit it. But yeah even if you aren’t majoring in anything like that still go for it! I’m applying for architectural studies and still sending in a whole photography portfolio. If you feel strongly about your photography, like oh-my-god-they-need-to-see-what-I-do-right-now, then yes send it in.

I would not submit a photography supplement if you are just an enthusiast or consider photography to be a hobby. If you’ve won national awards (like Scholastic Art and Writing) and have taken photography classes and are very talented, then you should consider submitting one.

I’m not a serious photographer, so I just do it more as a hobby. I submitted my supplement anyway, though!
