<p>It seems that TCNJ, though pretty competitive, has a bad habit of letting lesser-qualified candidates slip through the cracks...There have been some peers in my class who got accepted who, to my standards, certainly were underqualified. I'm talking about kids with 0 ap courses and low SAT scores, though one of them has hispanic ethinicity on her side!!! Is anyone on this forum surprised they got accepted?</p>
<p>I’m actually more surprised at some of the kids I know (friends of my son’s) who did not get in. (Many AP classes, good SATs, Honor Society, etc)</p>
<p>not really, i had low sat’s, one ap and a few honors, but tons of extra-curriculars with a good number of leadership positions & a high gpa and class rank. being accepted is more than just scores, they look at everything an applicant has to offer. so to suggest someone had an edge because of ethnicity is a low blow. obviously she has something more significant to offer.</p>
<p>I dont know how competitive it is really, because pretty much everyone at my school got in. (out of state school ranked #22 in US) It seems like they have a pretty high acceptance rate, its like 47, isnt it?</p>

<p>A low blow??? Oh please, have we not heard of affirmative action? I am a proponent of affirmative action, by the way, and would thusly feel no need to shirk at its success in helping a student of minority status get into school. I know that this girl has NO ap courses, and only 1 honors class over her entire career at my school; keep in mind that the single honors course that she is currently enrolled in is a SPANISH class and she comes from that background, speaking it at home. Her SATs are quite low, making her strikingly average. Her grades are not so great either. Rigor of schedule: no. Extracurricular involvements: no. SATs: no. Class rank: no. athletics: no. So why did she get in, if not for her minority status? Furthermore, a guidance counselor at my school called TCNJ on behalf of my friend who was placed under “second review”, only to hear directly from the mouth of a TCNJ admissions officer that there have been kids with lower SATs accepted, but they were of minority status. SO once more, a low blow??? Oh pleeeeaaaaseeee.</p>

<p>It’s decreasing every year. I know quite a few people from my school who were rejected/waitlisted. </p>
<p>I think TCNJ is a pretty excellent school. I mean, it was ranked 7th happiest college in the nation, haha. :D</p>
