I'm a guaranteed transfer currently enrolled at a UCSD. I was wondering how the the classes at the UCs compare to those at Cornell.

depends on major/college...i'm sure cornell is ranked way higher in academics...

in some areas, but don't underestimate UCSD's academics, it is also excellent. you should take into factor costs (if you're a CA resident) and also the academic prestige of your major/program.

exactly what i wanted to ask... except uci is ranked 6 spots below ucsd... not too much of a difference i guess...

i got GTed for HE... might transfer to cornell next yr... but i am not sure if that will be a wise decision....

cornell is much more prestigious but wouldn't it be better to be on top 10% at uci than to be in the mid 50% at cornell ? <- since classes will be harder?

that's like asking, "is it better to get an A in a regular class or a B in an AP class?"

which is why my answer to the question is - Be in the top 10% at Cornell

hmmm i don't know... which one would med schools prefer? A in a regular class or a B in an AP class?

An A in an AP class =).

i'm also a human ecology gt and i'm also doing premed at SD. Then do you guys know how hard the classes are though? We've been only talking about prestige and rank here, but are the classes harder due to competition or is it the material that the professors gives us?

As someone who graduated from Cornell and goes to UCSD for grad school now, I can tell you UCSD sucks in every way compared to Cornell! :P. That is my unbiased opinion.

can you be more specific Neutral? what exactly sucks about SD? The poor teaching? or is it the people?

Although I'm an ILR GT going to USC for the first year, I was VERY close to choosing UCSD, primarily because I live less than 5 minutes by foot. A major influence in my decision was hearing that the curve (no offence to any asians here) can work against you in some classes/courses, which sucks if you're a GT (3.3+ requirement for ILR and a few other schools; some might be just 3.0+). It is a great school though, in a fabulous location, and I am sure you will receive a quality education before transferring to Cornell.

ic what you mean diehldun. i'm finally signing up for classes tomorrow.
