Is anyone's daughter going to sorority recruitment this week?

Mine isn’t. For one thing, she has evening classes during some of the time. And, now she’s not so sure she *wants *to join a sorority. Initially she had thought she might give it a try. I think after reading and hearing about all the rituals and rigmarole to get in, she decided against it, at least for this quarter. Plus, she told me she doesn’t want to live in a house. She wouldn’t have to now, anyway. Her housing is paid for! :)

It seems that the Greek system isn’t as intense at Cal Poly as it might be at some schools. I met a lot of chapters at Open House and they all seemed so friendly and outgoing. I like that there’s a lot of philanthropy involved and just the opportunity to meet so many friends and enjoy that “sisterly bonding experience.” Frankly, I could really see my daughter having an awesome time in a group such as this. But, then no asked ME, right? LOL

I do wish they made the recruitment only during the weekend when no one has classes. Or starting Friday evening. I can understand her not wanting to miss a class.

I am a second year student. I joined Gamma Phi Beta last year as a freshman and have really enjoyed all the activities. Belonging to a sorority gave me an instant social life. I got advise from older sisters in my major about classes, internships etc. You do not have to live at the house.

^^ Thanks for that info.! I’ll pass it along to my daughter. It sounds like it’s been a good match for you.
