I'm going to be a sophomore in the fall. And after calculating my schedule for the next 3 years, I have realized that I can't fit AP Art History in, which I heard was really a fun class. Is this true? Should I really get rid of another class to get AP Art History in my schedule?

Or can is it easily self-studiable? If so, I think I can just self-study it, and then take the AP Exam, without actually taking the class.

(Btw the other class that I've replaced AP Art History with is ASB, which takes up a period at my school)

If art history is something you love then I say go for it as long as you have your requierments for graduating, but don't take a class just because it's fun who knows you might stink at it.

can I ask you a question can you take AP classes in the 9th and 10th grades?

not 9th grade, 10th grade yes, but my schedule is already full and official.

Anyone else? Do you think AP Art History is easily self-studiable?

i dont think it is self-studiable onles you self-study with more than one person. its a lot of information so i suggest if you do self study, purchase a gardner's art through the ages college textbook. its extremely expensive but its worth it!

I dont think its one of those that can be self-studied. a bunch of my friends took it this past year and they had like these thick binders of all the stuff they had to study for it. also, they said their exams were extremely tough. i know AP's are all tough, but my friends said that these were a different tough. i dont know how else to explain that.

anyway, if you are really into art history, then go for it, esp. if you plan to major in art in college. otherwise, id say take a different AP class or something and just read about art history for fun.

i agree with sword. in my ap art history class last year, we had huge, 3 inch 3 ring binders full of information...

the exam consists of 2 long, 30 min essays, 7 short essays in 5 or 10 mins each, and 115 multiple choice

ok I guess I'll take it then. Here's the list of my AP Classes senior year:

AP Calc AB
AP Statistics
AP Biology
AP English Literature
AP American Gov.
AP Art History

which one of those, if any, do you think is worth self-studying? Or is it just not possible to do so.

None of them actually these topics are usually taught by people who go deep into the subject they usually tell you things you wouldn't find in a book.

Hey! I'd prolly say AP Statistics would be easily self-studable. I mean that's what i'm going to do, because if you're talking ap calc. statistics won't be a prob 'cuz there much easier.

thanks, are you taking Statistics?

Nope, i'm just self-studying cuz in my school were not aloud to take two math classes and i'm going to take Calc my senior year cuz i think that would get me further than statisticas, and plus my sister said that statisticas ap test is really easy

cliff hanger that is a tough schedule. I kind of think that American Gov could be easy to self study but that is usually one of the more interesting AP's to take. Ive heard stats is easy to self study but with Calc that is a ton of math for senior year.

Yeah a lot of people have been telling me that Calculus and Statistics in ONE year is a ton of math too. Is Statistics really that easy though? What is Statistics? I have no idea what it is . . . I do know it has to do with math and graphs though.

Take Art History. If you are really interested and you really want to make the committed effort and want a break from those short-burst math courses, art is the way to go. It's a great course, but a lot of preparation (as with most APs) is required before you take the eam b/c it really is an information and visual-recognition sort of course, as you are required to recognize and describe pieces of art on slides and able to write about it and take the art in context to the history around it. But it is really a fun class if you need a number breather. Go for it!

Its going to be a great class for me next year because I will be the only guy...

I'm not really seeing a theme in your class choice. while I totally agree with doing your utmost in all subjects, i suggest you play to your strengths. in college, do you see yourself focused more on bio, math/statistics/calc, government, art history, etc.?
it wouldn't kill you to just drop down to honors in one of the classes. you don't even need to self study if you aren't desperate for the AP cred. (which some schools don't accept anyway.)
I'm only going to be taking AP Art History because i need to fulfill an art requirement to graduate and i don't want to have to take the basic comp/design class, but if you want it, go for it.

notjustakid, I'm taking AP Art History to fullfill the Performing/Fine arts requirement my school has too, lol. I have a very huge passion for computer science. That's what I will be majoring in, but my school doesn't have the class: AP Computer Science. That's why I will be taking Java course at community college next summer, then I'll self study for the exam, then take the AP Computer Science exam at my school.
I have to take AP Art History though . . .

statistics is really easy it's just bascially collecting data from patterns, and using that to hypothasize wut's going to happen, mosty probablitity
