Is AP Bio okay concurrently with Honors Chem?

I'm a sophomore this year, and was placed in AP Enviro because there was no room in Bio. There is room now, and I plan on transferring, but I informed my Enviro teacher and she shredded me, explaining how AP Bio should be taken after Honors Chem, and even getting a bit angry at me. She's a great teacher, don't get me wrong, but I don't think AP Enviro is either relevant towards my prospective major or in my field of interest.

My school doesn't require a high school chem class before Bio, but it does require a high school biology class, which I took last year. Nevertheless, I looked at the syllabus and she was right - it's designed for people who have finished a chem class.

My question is - should I be fine if I take chem concurrently? If not, should I read up on any chemistry concepts before switching into AP Bio? Thanks.

The chemistry involved in AP Bio is pretty simple, as long as you make an effort to really study those first few chapters you’ll be fine.

Your teacher’s just mad because she thinks her class is more important ._.

I took AP Bio concurrently with Honors Chem and I did perfectly fine.

You will be fine.

There are about six chapters in AP Biology that are chemistry-based. A couple of them will be easier with prior knowledge of chemistry…but are still doable without it. It just requires more work and studying.

I’m currently doing AP Bio and honors chem. There are a few chapters that require chemistry knowledge, but when that happens, go to khanacademy.org

Anyone interested in an online AP Biology/ Chem Honors study group?

Hypocrates, I don’t see why you have to take Honors chem before AP Bio. When I took the AP Bio course at my school, I took IB Chem concurrently, and I didn’t find chem to be a major problem. As APexpert had stated, only the first unit is hugely involved in chem, and the other chapters only had you memorize the specific chemicals involved. Try to discuss this with your GC; if you somehow get transferred successfully, then it’s good for you.
