Is AP Calc a Necessity?

I didn’t meet the req for AP Calculus for junior year, so I’m taking a lower level calculus class and planning on taking AP Stat senior year. I’m planning on majoring in nursing so I didn’t think calculus was too important, but some people have told me if looks bad if you don’t take ap calc. Should I take calculus instead of stat?

bumppp

You don’t need calculus at all for nursing, so any level of calculus will be excellent.

AP cal is definitely not necessary for nursing. don’t worry about what “looks” good. Take classes that interest you and are at your level.

I am not a nursing major and you can check the colleges you want to apply to in order to verify:

At mine, Statistics is a prerequisite course to entering the nursing program from the pre-major and completing that with AP is beneficial unless you want to take it in college to up your pre-req GPA as AP credit does not factor into GPA.

Calculus is not a requirement for nursing – it often fulfills GE requirements regardless of your major so it is one of the staple AP classes to take.
