Is AP CHEM as hard as Honors Chem at your school?

SouthKP, how much AP Chem class time do you get a week on average? And I’m assuming it’s a full year course?

yes, full year course. everyday for 50 minutes for lecture and every other day for 1 hour 40 min for labs.
we have two periods for ap chem

Okay, then that’s ALOT. That’s like more Chemistry class time than both Chemistry classes I’ve taken combined

i took honors chemistry then ap chem, and it was a wakeup call.
honors classes are nothing compared to ap sciences at my school and i got one of my only Bs for the year. its super tricky but i got a four which i’m not upset or pleased about…lol.

If you haven’t taken honors previously, you better get a “chem for dummies” book or something to teach you the basics. Our honors class (a pre-requisite for AP) spent a good 2 months learning the structure of the atom and how to use the periodic table. You’re expected to know allll of that right of the bat.

At my school, the students who skip honors chem and go straight to AP Chem perform better than the students who take honors chem before AP Chem, for the most part. This is because the AP Chem teacher is horrendous, so the students who are smart enough to skip honors chem are smart enough to teach themselves the material, whereas a lot of kids who took honors chem (a very easy class at my school) rely upon a teacher more.

AP Chemistry at my schoool is literally 100x harder than honors chem. I got an A in honors chem without much studying (not that it was super easy, I just excelled in that class). Yet AP Chemistry is considered the hardest class at my school. I currently have a C and yeah. Never had that before so far in my career… People last year had C and still got 5 on exam. Yeah you could say my teacher’s tests are difficult…
