i did very well in chemistry sophmore year... my math is very strong too... i guess what i am asking is, is it "do-able?"

of course it is doable. Nothing is impossible if you actually try for it. If you took chemistry you have the basic prereqs. hey i'm taking it right now and i love it. I've learning so much, looking at physical chemistry books. It is just fascinating. It is not at all hard. I think it's easy, but that's for chemistry geeks. Take it, the labs will be cool.

personally, i love my teacher i think he's great, but that doesn't distract from the fact that i think a lot of the labs are a waste of time for what you get out of them, that there's too much material for the time to cover it, and that overall its the biggest experience of "in one ear and out the other" i've ever had. I'm usually pretty good across the board, even in science. Maybe its a combination of it being the end of senior year and the fact that I just don't care all that much, but yeah--it seems that I have a 5 minute span of memory in the class, and after the first 5 minutes, nothing makes sense because I'm forgetting what I learned in the first and second minute, so on. I don't know, I also have a friend at another shcool that thought it was really easy, but most people at my shcool think its impossible.

Do most of you take ap chem as a two year course or in one year? at my school you take ap chem in one year with one lab period and one lecture period. With this system it really feels like your getting loaded down. how do you like the two year system?

I plan on taking it next year. My school offers a one-year program. What is the best prep book for AP Chem?

My school offers a two step program for both APUSH and AP Chem. It works really well with all of the time we're given to prepare for the exam, and we can digress into current events with APUSH once in a while; I like it a lot.

Nah, don't listen to what they say about difficulty of Chem.

Our school usually has around 30 people taking chem and most (i.e. 90% or so) get 5s. Then again, our teacher has a pretty impressive reputation. Everyone told me it'd be murder, but it's really not all that bad.

chem is wicked easy...don't let them scare you; it's interesting too. do it

Yeah I would definitely say Chem is the best AP Science for those who do not passionately feed off of calculus (for whom physics is the one). It is not very hard, especially if you have a good teacher. It's also really fun and gets pretty awesome towards the end when you learn that everything that you learned all year is like all tied up into one thing and its basically just the same few principles applied again and again.

Chemistry is awesome. I wish my school had a AP Chem class....
:( I was thinking self-studying, but i dont know if i would be able to understand it all without a teacher. jagman, you should definately take it

Sounds good. I hear that its near impossible, but after speaking to a girl in the class, she said its not that bad. The teacher definately has a great rep. for explaining well (over and over- until you understand), so that's good. What prep book would you guys recommend?

many people think it's hard. many people think it's easy. regardless of sex. but i can almost guarantee you that if you're a hard worker, "quick comprehender", and good at math you won't have a hard time.

im serious, our school has a chemistry professor from sum university...the hardest teacher and his labs are impossible. anyways, dats my experience. I also noticed sum school's Ap are much easier than other school's APs.

don't waste money on a prep book, you don't need it...just pay attention and review your notes and you'll be fine. relax...it's easy and it's high school, have fun

Yeah Blackbelt I think I'm gonna self-study this in my senior year. But I'll have a tutor that I can visit every now and then if things get too tough..

That's cool. I bought Peterson's Review book; it was good, but we only covered like 50% of the material in honors chem. I realized self-studying out of review books isn't a good idea, because they're "Review" books, not meant to teach. Im not saying its impossible, just more difficult than using a textbook.

Why don't you try using a real book, like that Zumdahl's one? You could always buy a used one from ebay if you can't borrow one. Are you taking the exam this May??

i agree with goalie1258. Chemistry is easy. (but i did started learing about chemistry since 7th grade) .

Dont worry, if you know the math and the equations/periodic table, you do fine.

No, lol. Definately next May. The ebay thing's a good idea, though. Maybe i'll get one this summer, so I'll be ready for next may....

PR is the best ap chem book. i got a 5 on past Ap tests which i used for practice. PR is the best.
