Is AP Chem that hard of a class?

Going to be taking this class next year as a sophomore. I will also be taking AP Euro and Alge 2 Honors concurrently. I’ve heard from my older peers how AP Chem is literal hell. I know it’s different with every school and such but, I just wanted to know if this is actually true…

The simple answer to that question: Yes.

Now, it really depends on your school and your teacher, because AP Chem can be taught in a lot of different ways, and some teachers are a lot tougher than others. Overall, though, I’d say it’s a really hard class. I’m a sophomore right now taking AP Chem, and I’m taking APUSH at the same time. I’ve never taken AP classes before this year, and it doesn’t sound like you have either, so that adds to the intensity, having never experienced a class like it before and having to worry about the AP exam can be really scary. My chem grades have been in the 80s all year, and I have friends who have a harder teacher and get worse grades. Again, it really depends on your school. No matter where or who you’re learning it from though, it’s a REALLY fast-paced curriculum, and you have to be prepared to take on a heavy workload, and do a lot of studying.

So yeah, it is kind of hell, I’m not gonna lie, but I guess it’s worth it to have another AP class on your transcript…there’s just a lot of stuff to memorize obviously and you have to keep up with all the work and stuff.

If you decide to take it I highly recommend getting review books and making sure you understand everything. Don’t be afraid to ask your teacher questions or anything, because if you don’t understand something, that’s going to carry over to a lot of other topics and confuse you even more.

it can be difficult that’s true but if you study for 1 hr a day you’ll have 100% guaranteed!

^ Clearly exaggerated, do not take as gospel.

Talk to some students and teachers and see which AP science class is the easiest.

In my school, AP Chemistry out of the other 3 AP science courses is the least rigorous, which is why I took it.

If you’re actually planning to major in science or whatever, then just take whichever subject is the most interesting.

What a coincidence! I will be taking the same classes as you next year (except with both Honors Geometry and Algebra II). I would say it mostly depends on the school and you. If you’re genuinely interested in science and chemistry and planning on majoring in a STEM field (like me), then by all means, take the class.

What I’m planning to do over the summer is to read through Glencoe Chemistry: Matter and Change and answering the chapter problems at the end of each chapter. After I finish that, I’ll purchase Zumdahl AP Chemistry 7th or 9th Edition and just read through that and answer chapter problems. So, if you want to do this to be prepared, then go ahead and do it.

For review books, pre-order Princeton Review AP Chemistry 2018 Edition (PR is the best for AP Chemistry from what I’ve heard), and study from the first day of class until the AP Exam in May. I know this seems overkill, especially if you have done exactly as I suggested above, but it’s better to be really overprepared then “alright”, at least in my opinion.

Chemistry sounds like a very interesting conceptual subject, and I hope we all enjoy our time in that class!

If you like chemistry I assume it’ll be fine. I’m taking it next year with my honors chem teacher and I like her.
