Is AP Computer Science Hard?

I am good at math and science. My biggest weakness in math would be word problem even though I'm pretty good with them. I don't like geometry at all even though I got an A while I like algebra a lot. I like Chemistry better than Biology.

I'm a freshmen and taking honors classes in Math, Science, History, and Spanish

I am already going to take 7 AP classes

My school limits students to take only 3 AP classes per year (not including freshmen), so I can only take AP Computer Science during Sophomore year. I'm also going to take AP Euro

I want to go to some very selective colleges, so if I take the class I want to get at least an A- in the class and a 4 on the exam. My GPA is a 3.9.

Do you think I should take the class? Is it my type of class.

Very very easy, it’s my blow-off this year

Depends on the student and the quality of the teacher. If it is indeed “your type of class,” go ahead and take it.

My kids both found it easy and got 5s.

I found it ridiculously easy- the exam was almost entertaining. However, I had classmates who hated it and were dumbfounded by the exam. It is a very easy subject-- if you have the mindset for it. Some people just don’t have the type of mind for programming. Mathy kids typically are the right type.

Computer science is a lot about problem solving and divergent thinking. For the free response, it’s alll about word problems, so. They’ll give you a big scenario and some data and you have to write programs that perform certain actions. It’s about knowing the computer science tools you have, and using them in a logical way. The rest of the test is like any other exam- just knowing, and understanding, the AP material.

Anyways. There’s just a really brief summary.
