Is AP Credit valid throughout all your years at Penn?

Let's say I have taken AP Calc BC and Macroeconomics in high school and gotten 5s on both of them. I'm been accepted into engineering at Penn but I want to internally transfer after freshman year into Wharton. To do this I need to have Calc, Micro, and Macro done. Freshman year I take Microeconomics. Will the 5s from Macro and Calc still count after my first year and give me econ waivers and allow me to transfer?

Also, for those of you in Wharton, is Micro a weeder class(grade deflating) or is it interesting with good professors?

Reply fast because my AP registration deadline is really soon
Thanks in advance

Your AP credits will still hold. I don’t know about the micro course because I’m still in high school.
Why do you want to transfer into Wharton instead of doing a dual degree? You must have some interest in engineering right? Why didn’t you just apply to wharton in the first place? I’m curious because I’m in the same situation as you.

Something to keep in mind: Wharton students typically take ECON 10, which is Macro and Micro combined in one semester.

That is not accurate information. For the econ exams, you don’t get credit, you get waivers for econ 001 (micro) and econ 002 (macro) that allow you to take higher courses, if you choose to take econ you will no longer have the waiver.
As for math, this depends. If you retake math 104, then yes you will loose the credit after you take the course. However, if you skip math 104 and take math 114 or 115 (I would recommend this if you have gotten credit for BC), then you can keep the credit. Basically most ap credits are either elective credits or for intro courses. If you take the intro course, then you will surrender your AP credit. If you look at the course descriptions and the information available online this is very clear.

I’m into engineering and if I can’t do a dual degree (don’t have enough credits or it seems too difficult), I’d much rather just transfer to Wharton because I’m also into business. I applied to engineering because my entire high school career is geared towards it, but I realized I’m really not into engineering jobs.

Poeme/FightingQuaker-
Okay I understand that.
Would it be possible to take ECON 10 freshman year even as an engineer(I have a 5 on English, Chem, Physics, and Calc so I will have an open slot)? In that case I won’t bother taking Micro/Macro APs

And again, is ECON 10 a weeder(grade deflating class)?

Thanks guys

As you know, transferring into Wharton is hard, high GPA is needed , so yes every class you take can be considered a weeder. I wouldn’t take easy classes to boost your grades because that would delay your graduation since Wharton has strict required classes.

You do realize that you can go into firms and have finance-related jobs after graduating from SEAS?

FYI, you really should take micro and macro if you’re serious about Wharton.

ECON010 is a Wharton-only course, I believe.
