Is AP Physics necessary for SEAS?

Currently i am in Magnet Physics (similar to Honors Physics), my course load for senior year is currently

Multi/Differential Calc.
AP Studio Art
AP Psychology
AP Statistics
AP English Lit
AP Gov. US
Anatomy/Physiology

To get into SEAS, is it essential to take AP physics B or would my course load for next year make up for that, i might be able to drop AP art or stat but the rest are locked in.

Oh and if i did go to SEAS i would probably major in Cognitive Science, maybe the dual degree program.

wow are you kidding ?

do you need to learn biology in order to become a doctor?
do you need to take economics classes to major in business?
do you need air to live?

Someone’s getting rejected haha

haha, nice way of putting it. But yeah, your ass is going to be royally slaughtered if you have your first physics course in SEAS. Take the AP course, it’ll be useful. (you don’t really need an art portfolio anymore)

so i take it from the responses that AP physics is a must have for admission? But would it matter since i wouldn’t be getting an engineering degree but a cognitive science degree.

Did u take both ap calcs? That could somewhat make up for ur lack of phys…

No i am just in Ap Calc BC and taking Honors Physics this year, from a purely admissions standpoint would i be much worse off than someone with AP physics or would we be in the same boat.

what about if you want to major in BAS comp sci (ASCS) and you havent taken compsci (not offered at school)? is the fact that the BAS doesnt focus as much on compsci a little better for one’s case?

When I took honors physics last year, it was basically the same curriculum as AP physics B, which wasn’t offered at my school until this year. So depending on how your school works, you might know just as much as someone who took AP physics B. Although I’m not sure how the admissions people look at it. AP physics C is in another league though. That’s the class that will best prepare people for college level physics.

well in my school Honors physics moves at a slower pace than AP, but again i am more concerned about the way AP physics will factor into my getting admitted to UPenn, even if i do take AP physics and they decide to give me credit, i would probably decline just to refresh myself so the learning part isn’t the more important factor, i mean i don’t hate physics but it is just that i am not an avid lover of physics.

to be honest…you’re gonna need to take ap physics to get into SEAS. point blank.

you already have ap calc bc, so you’re solid there…but you absolutely need to take ap physics next year.
