is AP Statistics a bull***** class?

is this class crap? i want to take it as a senior at my school and take ap calculus ab online along with it. i dont wanna be embarrassed by taking it though. is it embarrassing? should i jus do ap calc ab at my school and not do stats? i dont want ppl laughign at me because ppl at my school from algebra 2 can take it and i completed pre-calculus so i feel like im above this...

It's not that the course is B.S. in anyway, it's just that there's no calculus in it, so what math you're up to has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's like saying that people who are in remedial history can take it; stats has very little to do with regular math classes. However, AP stats tends to not be recognized in terms of awarding college credit for the class, but depending on the teacher, it could be a serious course. In my school it's a real class, but that'll vary on a school to school basis.

At my school, yes. At community college here, even easier.

I don't understand the concept of how taking a class such as AP Statistics can be embarrassing...but anyhoo, I don't think that AP Stat is entirely worthless. My teacher this past year sucked because he was old and about to retire...he could have cared less about us. With a good teacher I'm sure the class is fine. Also, it's good prep for any math/business classes you may have to take in college.

We'll it all depends on the teacher and the way he or she presents it. I'm also taking it next year. It's a pretty serious class at my school. Teacher says it's useful in college because some colleges accept statistics as a math fulfillment. Also my teacher says it will require your reading skills as well.

I had to choose between AP Calc AB and AP Stats for my senior year too. I went to my teachers for advice, and after talking to them I decided to do Stats instead of Calculus. My teachers told me that almost all majors have some kind of Statistics class that you have to take, so even though the AP credit may not count for college units, it'll be helpful to have been exposed to the material beforehand.

Many top schools do not accept AP Stat credit. Take it only if you need it as a filler AP class.

Take the class, take the exam, get a 5, and then make statements about it being "BS".

The exam is not easy, because everything is expressed implicitly in word problems. You have to be able to understand what is going on and interpret what you're supposed to do next. That is the challenge. The math is all calculator functions and basic algebra.

In my opinion AP stats is not a BS class. I just don't really consider it a true math class. It's a different format, I took it my senior year, it was in no way a blow off class, but it wasn't extremely difficult either. Although the AP exam was difficult, the open response destroyed me, not really looking forward to seeing my score. If you do take it just don't expect a typical math class, there is a lot of writing and explaining involved. There are times when the answers don't even matter, you can get full credit on some problems without even getting the correct number answer if you explain everything correctly. I see no reason to laugh at this class because it does take work.

its very easy, and its not really math

Having just finished AP stat, i concur wholeheartedly with smder99 and aph. And if you feel embarassment about taking an AP class, I feel sorry for you.

I took AP stats this past year, and the exam is very easy. I barely did any work in the class the whole year, and I was still able to get over a 95 and easily get a 5 on the final exam and the ap exam. Stats is an imitation math class.
