The reason why I’m asking is that i purchased a book for AP world this year, and I was wondering can i use the same book to prep for the SAT subject test titled World history
No. AP tests to a college level as opposed to a HS level. I can;t speak for world history in particular, but in general, AP covers material in more depth, but less breadth.
I would suggest seeing if your local library has an SAT subject book for World History so you can look through and compare. My daughter did that for AP Chem. She didn’t need the SAT book enough to actually buy it, just to flip through to fill some gaps and review stuff from Honors Chem that she hadn’t used in awhile.
So im a sophomore now but want to apply to top schools when do you guys suggest to start studying for SAT and SAT subject tests
My PSAT is 1060
Start studying over the summer for the SAT. It will also help boost your fall PSAT score, just in case you live in a state that has a reasonable NMF cut off.
You would then be prepared to take an SAT or two during junior year and could still have time in fall of senior year to take it again if needed. Alternately, you could realize it’s not a good test for you and have time to study for and give the ACT a shot.
For the subject tests, it matters what courses you are taking, whether the colleges you are targeting even considers them, and if the colleges you are targeting have requirements (ie for some engineering programs you may need a math and science, for some schools you may need a math or science and an English or social studies).
Prepscholar has some good recommendations for which subject tests to take after which courses.
Thanks guys for all the help
My daughter took both tests the same monrh. She got a 5 on the AP exam, which only 6% of students achieved. On the other hand, she was only in about the 75th percentile on the SAT2 World History exam. The curriculum was very different!
