Is applying to colleges with an undeclared major harmful?

By this I mean, will admission officers be less likely to admit a student who is applying as undeclared... I have a wide range of interests and im thinking of applying to schools like UCLA and USC, but i dont know what i want to major in... help, please.
*this is in response to me not wanting to volunteer in this (very prestigious) hospital program I got into because I know that I will not be happy working in a hospital setting and would rather spend my summer traveling with my family... But in the back of my mind I wonder if it will help me give some sort of direction to what I would want to study in college (because I really like psychology, but yeahhh)

Sorry I don't know how else to phrase this question... Please feel free to ask me to rephrase any part of this or go into more detail.

It depends on the college.

Some schools are divided into divisions (e.g. Letters and Science, Engineering), so which division you apply to may matter (and changing divisions later may require another admission process). Within a division, it may or may not matter whether you apply to a specific major (if it does matter, changing major may require another admission process).

Check each college to be sure.

Some schools like UMich mostly do not admit students into specific major (with some exceptions), but just College of Engineering or LSA. However, UIUC encourage direct admission to specific program although undetermined/undeclared is allowed.
