Is architecture a good choice? please help!

Okay, so i'm going to be a senior in high school, and i plan on going to college to major in architecture. I know that not a lot of houses are being built right now, but i think if i was creative enough and had my own business that i could make it work. I have also noticed that commercial buildings are still being built such as churches, schools, etc. So what if I majored in commercial architecture? Would that give me a better chance in being successful? And would a double major in some kind of engineering help as well? I would want to go somewhere like The University of Tennessee for my undergraduate courses, and then transfer to clemson To get my architect major. Are these good thoughts or am I way in left field? If so please help me get in the right direction! thank you so much!!

Most schools don’t require you declare a major until after sophomore year of college so you have a long time to figure out exactly what you’re going to do. Double majoring with engineering would give you a wider field of jobs to choose from, which is a good thing. It will be a heavier course load though.

architecture is a good path in the career of life because now a days construction work are more in this world to the world is building up by people who are in the field of architecture.

ISM, plz try to use sentences.

In reality, architecture rises and falls in the business world. Right now, it’s on a long decline. Will it rise again? I dunno. My daughter is considering it and I’ve only offered tepid support b/c I know there’s a glut of architects out there and it’s a grueling profession. You should speak to actual professionals and see what they recommend and any advice they would give you. Would they do it again? Was it worth it to them? Do the like the work? Would they have taken a different path? If they could, would they switch to another career field? Would they endorse their own kids choosing the field?

Get a few actual architects to answer these questions for you – then decide.

OP - Take a look at some of the threads and postings on the Architecture forum. Ask your question there - there are practicing architects that respond. And the question about double majoring has resulted in a couple of lengthy discussions.
