Is asking a professor for a rec after one quarter too early?

My community college is on the quarter system, so is it okay to ask for teacher recommendations after the end of just one quarter? I mean, I can't really go out of my way to ensure that I take another class with the professor. Just wondering if the 4-year institutions with think that the prof hasn't gotten to know me well in that short time frame of a couple months. Thanks.

I am not familiar with quarter system because I have been educated with semester-system education all my life.
I have requested 3 recommendations from 3 different professors.

Computer Science
He is a very nice professor. One day I asked him for a letter of recommendation, and he nodded.

English
I had this professor for two consecutive semesters. He taught me freshman composition and writing for engineers. He knows me very well, so he is eager to write a recommendation (actually 3, but I only requested 2 at the end).

Chemistry
I had chemistry in my first semester of my freshman year. I always asked questions during and after lecture. But he’s a busy person and so he didn’t really remember who I was. I contacted him via email, and he responded and agreed to write a letter of recommendation for me.

I got A+, A-, and A from them, respectively. So your performance in class is extremely critical, regardless how long the professor has learned you.

Go up to the professor and ask. Don’t hesitate. They are there to teach and to help the student. If you have bad grades then don’t expect a letter from the person anyway. It doesn’t matter who you ask.

Go ahead and ask, please.
By the way, I did these last semester. I am now a sophomore.

It’s ok, students ask all the time. Just make sure you did well in the class and that the professor can discuss your work and your interests in the letter. Did you go see the professor during office hours? That would help. If not, make sure you visit ASAP.

I’m on a quarter system and needed recs freshman fall even, and profs were very happy to write them, even after a couple of weeks. It helps if its a small class or a class with a lot of papers. Also, if your prof you want to ask offers office hours, go at least once, so s/he gets to know you a little bit outside of class.
