whoever applied there from my school got accepted. And people keep saying how good business school it is. Is it true?

no, its underfunded and below-average. if you can get into a half-decent business school avoid it.

Considering that the only better choice in New York City is NYU's Stern, yes it is a good business school.

Yeah my school is like Baruch's largest feeder by far and EVERYONE gets in...

but then again we're NYU's largest feeder as well. At least 3-400 of our students apply there each year and they take so many. I'm not talking about only Stern, but NYU as a whole. The reason Baruch looks so good to so many people though, is that it's so cheap...

glamourouss, what school do you go to? If it ain't a secret. :)

Brooklyn Technical High School

http://bths.edu
http://bthsnews.org/

:)

I thought it was either that or stuy :)

I hate my school :D

I'd rather be @ a reg public school, to tell you the truth. Our administration really doesn't care about the students, at all. The only difference between us and a regular public school around here is that we needed to take a test and get in...what happens after that really makes no difference. Our teachers are exactly the same as any in other schools. And like I said, the administration are a bunch of jerks! /raaant

Baruch is a great school and everybody in NYC considers it to be the second best school in business. Everybody in NYC who wants to study business goes either to Stern( NYU) or Baruch. The school always gets praise.

Baruch will never land you a good job. If you get into a good corporation from Baruch, you will get stuck in back-office work.

Baruch students all work at top business firms in NYC. If Baruch was so bad so many NYC students would not be so anxious to attend the school. Like I said people in NYC only talk about NYU or Baruch for business.

Putting NYU and Baruch in the same sentence together is crazy. Stern is about 100 times better than Baruch. Baruch is no where near NYU, at all.

I agree, also cause lots of people want to go to grad school for business. I mean they'll certainly intern or work for 2-3 years and gain work experience, but if business majors are really serious, they will look in to going to a specified graduate business major. And which of these ( http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/mba/brief/mbarank_brief.php ) 51 schools will take a Baruch student over a student from a state school with a good business program? Who cares if NYC only has 2 business programs. One is outstanding and the other is below average. Yeah it's good WITHIN NYC, but nationally - hell no.

Damn MK99, you really are an elitist prick, aren't you?

Sorry, but NYU is one of the more overhyped schools I've heard. I personally don't understand the allure of the place. Yes, it's in NYC, but there's no campus and I hear the school spirit really sucks. It's basically like a Hollywood movie: it gets ppl so hyped up and excited about how "great" it's gonna be, but once you've witnessed it for yourself, it kinda makes you go "blah".

I acknowledge that NYU has a strong business school and outstanding Performing Arts program (Tisch), but outside of that, what makes NYU so great (besides NYC)??

thx so what's a good business school in New York State? Exept NYU, Columbia and Cornell?

Fordham
Pace
Manhattan College
LIU

I believe each school has an extensive network in NYC. So evaluate each school and major in that perspective. For example, Pace and LIU have an excellent accounting reputation. Pace is close to Wall Street and has a great relationship with companies in the area.

NYC Breakdown:

Baruch campus is yuck at best. There is no school spirit. Virtually everyone commutes and then runs home to get out of the situation. I personally am not NYU's biggest fan, but it is undeniably a top school that is only getting better. If someone can even get into NYU CAS they should avoid Baruch like the plague.

Considering that MK99 has never been to college or has even worked in corporate life, his experience evaluating or knowing where Baruch students go after graduation is very limited and antecdotal at best.

As a person who actually works for a major fortune 100 corporation with more than 15 years in HR, when it comes to value, if you cannot afford Baruch's programs are very highly regarded and a very affordable option.

MK99, you should tell that to all the great and successful people I know who graduated from Baruch. They are all making a lot more money ( rich people)than my cousin who graduated from Columbia in econ. If big companies are always in love with Baruch students then even if the academics are good, thier students sure come out to be good and rich employees.
