I have a 1500 new sat which converts to 33 act, and 4.57 weighted gpa, 13/483 class rank, likely national merit semifinalist. Should I apply to Baylor right now to increase my chances?
Yes, most of the applicants that are admitted apply SCEA or EA. Is Baylor your top choice?
yeah its my top choice. I applied EA on July 27 but I am still waiting on my high school transcript
I don’t really see any reason why you wouldn’t get in easily with a good scholarship, although they do prefer to see students involved in some sort of church activities. I finished my SCEA app on July 30 and my stats are similar to yours so best of luck to you
@laney17 and @plopsun – I just came across these old posts, do you mind if I ask what kind of scholarships you were able to get at Baylor? My daughter is a current junior, and she has similar stats to what you you have mentioned.
i gots a 88,000. im nmf, but i haven’t gotten an offer yet
@plopsum, my son got the $88K too. He is NMF. Once you make Baylor as 1st choice for NMF you will automatically get full tuition. Until then they will not send you the offer. But you are guaranteed to get that.
@crazy4info If you go to Baylor Scholarships webpage you can easily calculate how much you will get based on the SAT/ACT and GPA. From my understanding $88K is the max without NMF. If you get Faculty scholarship then its full tuition too. Good Luck
@AllenTx15 Right now, Baylor is definitely her first choice, but she won’t be applying until this summer. She will most likely be a NMF with her 225 PSAT in Texas. Her SAT is 1500, so she will get the highest Regents Gold. I’m just trying to find out how competitive she is for additional scholarships. Our family will not be eligible for any financial aid, so everything helps! Let me know if you have any insights on any of the other scholarships. Thanks!
@crazy4info Congrats on your daughters achievements. Since she is NMF, she is guaranteed full tuition. They have some faculty awards which cover tuition if u r not NMF and if you are NMF they will cover living expenses. They give that to those who attend their Invitation for Excellence event. Make sure to apply for that event in Nov or January. It’s hit and miss but at least you want to be in race. Not sure if there are any other scholarships that stack up
@crazy4info there are also honors college scholarships if your dc applies to one of the four honors options. Some are need based but some are merit based only. It is a simple scholarship application procedure after the more involved honors application.
Thank you! @crazym0m
Crazy4Info – the full tuition scholarship for NMF is definitely a great offering for Baylor and I’m glad your daughter is going in that direction. My daughter (NMF) did get a Faculty Scholarship offer this year, which if you already have the NMF offer just adds on payment for all the other fees in addition to tuition. I have been told that it may covers some summer programs as well. To get that offer, I think it is important to apply early and go the Invitation to Excellence weekend in the fall. At that weekend, they will assign an additional essay topic that I think was the deciding factor for the Faculty scholarship. Good luck!
@NashvilletoTexas Congrats! Is your daughter going to go to Baylor? Thank you so much for the info. Do you mind if I send you a private message to get more details on the Invitation to Excellence experience? Not sure if I said it before, she will be applying for Fall 2018 enrollment.
Not sure how the PM process works here, but you are welcome to give it a go. She has narrowed it down to Baylor and Rice, but not sure yet which way she will go. Like you, we won’t get any financial aid at Rice, and they don’t do much for merit scholarships (for non-internationals anyway), so the financial difference between the schools is extremely significant.
@NashvilletoTexas My DS was accepted to Baylor U and so excited. He’s going to Baylor this weekend for Invitaion to Excellence. We just got to know about getterman(?) scholarship covering 60,000 per year but it’s due tonight(sigh!). I’m wondering if he gets some additional merit S through I2W, up to how much can he get the total scholarship? Do you think is it worthy to try for Getterman Scholaship just tonight?
@3lovingmom – The Getterman scholarship is new this year. My DD applied for the Getterman, and it didn’t take her long to do the video essay. Maybe about 1 hour. However, she did do a 15 minute interview with our pastor at church to help her prepare. My D is attending I2E in January. My understanding is that Getterman covers more than the NM scholarship and I2E scholarship combined because there are funds for studying abroad in Getterman. Does that make sense?
Thanks, @crazy4info! It’s new so I couldn’t find any about Getterman in CC. It was 6pm when I asked this question here and I DS and I discussed to or not to apply for it and decided not to. The deadline was yesterday and he has school orchestra regular rehearsal every Wednesday night for 3 hours. I just hope he can achieve something good this weekend. My DD got accepted to University of Minnesota for engineersting and honors college and expect 10k for NMFS. My DS got an acceptance envelope from UTD today. He’ll fly and have a tour at UTD all day tomorrow Friday and participate in I2E this Saturday. So exited and I think it’s lucky to get admission to both schools just right before the first visits.
@3lovingmom Very exciting! good luck to him. My D is attending I2E in January.
@crazy4info when did your D submit application vs. when did she hear back for January I2E? My D was invited to apply and submitted application 10/30. Received acceptance and scholarship award yesterday. Just waiting to hear back on I2E invite. Thanks!
Same @seniormom1823 ! This waiting is really tough, especially for planning.
