I am an Eagle Scout and I was wondering if how important that is in an application. Could it be a deciding factor?

Brown is a very liberal school so I doubt that they have much respect for scouting. I wish they did (it could be my hook too!)

if it's an important commitment in your life and you show that it is on your application, i'm sure it will do you no harm. it probably wouldn't be a deciding factor either; I don't think any one extracurricular activity, short of doing some sort of insane research in lab or something could ever be a deciding factor.

I also don't think they would hold an specific opinion on scouting lol...

Yeah, scouting never really struck me as an ultra-conservative activity. And besides, they're always looking for diversity, right? So they might want to admit some conservatives every now and then.

conservative as in, small government? Or conservative as in, save the trees? Anything like that could be a hook if you really seem to enjoy it.

save the trees is more conservationist, not conservative. saving trees is definitely more liberal territory.

regardless, it's not like brown doesn't accept political conservatives...i mean, alan keyes daughter got in.

i'm sure being an eagle scout is a great hook if you can explain why it is an important part of your life

Being an Eagle Scout along tons of other volunteer got a friend of mine into Princeton. I don't think it was deciding factor but combined with being the Salvation Army's volunteer of the year it certainly did not hurt.

yeah, circle, thats why I asked lol. Eagle Scouts are conservationists though...right?

how about you drop your prejudiced views on what eagle scouts are or aren't. they can be anything and being involved in scouting can mean nothing politically.

i know - i am one.

uhhh...no one said that it did

go back and read the post more carefully, i think you jumped to the wrong conclusion!
