In my essays, i have taken the literally taken the bull by the horns and been very to the point and bold. I mean, my essay has no introduction, it goes directly to the body, which is very strong.
admission officers might never have read something like this. but do you think boldness is acceptable and will come across well to the other side of the table?

If your essay flows well and is truthful to the point you’re trying to make then the boldness will be appreciated. If you are being bold just to have it as a gimmick, you may want to rethink it.

Out of context it is hard to give you an answer. I would love to have a look if you want to PM it to me, I will comment back.

Admissions officers have seen everything, don’t kid yourself. ![]()
If the essay is well written and supports/flows with the rest of your application, then it will work.
If (otoh) it comes across as making you seem cocky/arrogant, you might want to re-think it.

I agree ^^

yeah it won’t hurt. i wrote candidly about racial differences in intelligence (which are mostly the result of genetics). then i cited this as the reason for the social ails of baltimore. be bold. be truthful. be honest.

facepalm

ROFL.
Erm… hahahah

Yeah, dude that’s very, very, very risky. Very.

Directed at Iamright.
In fact, if you get accepted with that essay, I’ll be very shocked.

I have to admit: Iamright has an interesting perspective.

I thought it was just a smart-a reply, but looking at his other posts, he has some interesting viewpoints. More importantly, he took huge risks in his essays and was accepted.

That is pretty bold.

well sorry to burst your pc bubble, but i did get accepted.

after all, hopkins motto is veritas vos liberabit! too bad the famous Hopkins prof who agrees with me and does research on the subject is not around any longer.

i thought the admissions officer people would be closed minded liberals, but apparently they are a lot more open-minded than i imagined. so i have to give a big shoutout to them for welcoming different povs.

back to the op. admissions officers probably have seen a lot, but they haven’t seen everything. everyone in the world is a special individual, so make sure that you show the admissions officer what makes you special. so if you write something that makes them want to read it again to make sure they really read what what they just read, then good for you. as long as you make it clear that you are not crazy. but the bolder the better, i say.

Wow

boldness? go for it.
whatever is your comfortable writing style, just be careful with wording so you don’t seem offensive or showoffy that you can write differently than everyone else.

if you want, you can send me your essay i’ll take a look (i got accepted so no worries + i am a writer)

Just be careful not to be insulting. Personally, I thought I was very risky with UChicago, and I got deferred, possibly because of the topic. Iamright does prove that you can be accepted with something controversial, but make sure yours isn’t.
