Is being born in another country a hook?

I know what a hook typically is--URM, athlete, legacy, first-gen, etc. but I was wondering if this could be considered a hook as well. I was born in Malaysia, moved to the US as a baby, and then went back for approx. 2 years before I returned to America.

Is there a difference between being one type of Asian over another? I am Malay Malay. Also, my best friend is in a similar situation as me, only she is Thai. If different Asian origins does make a difference, how would she fare? Makes me feel bad for asking, but I am really curious.

Oh, and I'll just throw it out here. Would these be considered hooks as well? My uncle owns a successful go kart company, my aunt produces Malay television programs and dramas, and my cousin is a professional go kart and race car driver (well, he's only a reserve for now). So I myself am nothing remarkable, but I'm related to people who are. Ahh, life is unfair haha. :P

No.

If your uncle can donate $10 million to whatever college you’re applying to, then it’s a hook. Otherwise, nothing you said constitutes as a hook. You are a ORM.

OK, thanks for the answers! I am certainly not going to try buying my way into a college spot, much less beg my uncle for such a thing. Oh well, I’ll just have to earn it the more regular way like most everyone else.

Thanks again, guys.
