discuss plzzz

depends on your context; where you go to school; who you hand with etc.

Being "smart" should never be an undesirable trait.

in all honesty, unless you go to a top school, it is. People really don't consider being smart "cool", so it's kinda tough to do both. I think after a while though, people come to accept you...

Well, my school is SLCs, and since most of the overachievers take APs and Honors and they keep everyone from an SLC within their own SLC teachers, you have the same people for the most part in all your classes. And it'd be really bad if you had an SLC where everyone made fun of you for being smart!

Pretty much, except when you get into the higher level APs. Even in my only honors class this year, theres about 5 of us who are AP-level and the others dislike us because of it for the most part. Only in my AP classes is it a good thing to be smart.

What's SLC?

Small Learning Community. A School within a school in a sense.

Oh yea, I think that's what they are doing to those poor freshmen at my school this year.

I think it depends on your personality and what you make out of high school. Don't think that being smart is going to hold you back. And just for the record, our valedictorian last year was both homecoming and prom queen

It really depends on your personality. If you come across as an introverted, unsocial person, then you're not going to be the most popular kid in school regardless. On the other hand, if you can maintain a 4.0 while partying like a rock star, then all the more power to you.

no, not really . . . it's not undesirable if it goes along with good-looking, athletic, sociable, etc.

Being smart doesn't really make much of a difference... If you're friendly and sociable, then you'll be popular. If you aren't, then you won't be. Being smart just makes school work easier so you can have more time to do other things.

well i guess maybe its just my school then... at my school, the more popular kids are generally the jocks who do drugs and dont really care about school...

I don't think intelligence should ever be undesirable... in my school, the only people who are outwardly taunted for their intelligence are the ones who flaunt it. Anyone who's friendly is generally treated with respect and kindness.

I never had a problem with it, especially after I got in. Then it was all "**** man you're going to Haaaarvard?" so essentially superstar status lol.

Intelligence is irrelevant/secondary.

This, pretty much. Be smart but be a nerd/unsociable/unfriendly freak and uh, you're gone.

Sometimes, I want to be slightly
less intelligent, because its harder to make
friends in a new school when you have three
honors classes, and most of the "cool kids"
don't have any.

Iunno. Maybe my school is weird but ALL the popular kids are at the top of the class, take all APs, and score really well on their SATs.

for some people, you dont need to care about school to do well in it.

being smart is cool as long as you don't make people feel dumb
