Hello world!

I saw in the lucky thread people who are accepted have not really highs SATs or GPAs...
Why?Is berkeley easy to get in? Or they just know Barack Obama?

Thank you !

Thank you !

you lost me at barack obama…

Um, Cal had roughly a 20% acceptance rate this year. That isn’t “easy” by anyone’s standard. And there are plenty of accepted students with extremely high, Ivy-caliber stats.

It’s pretty easy to get in, not because it’s a bad school, but because it supports a lot of spots for undergrads.

Easy if you’re a low income URM first generation college student

Not with that grammar :).

It’s a little over 20% acceptance rate. So that is not Ivy League difficult, but it isn’t easy either.

hell yeah. i just played world of warcraft all of high school and got in.

Depends on the major… Engineering isn’t exactly easy.

it’s a public school, so it’s not difficult compared to ivies.

i’m pretty surprised to hear people say it’s “easy” or “pretty” easy to get accepted to uc berkeley…

saying it’s “not difficult compared to ivies” is pretty stupid. every single university in the world (literally) is “not difficult to get into compared to ivies.”

Berkeley indefinitely is a challenging school to be admitted to. I wouldn’t underestimate the admissions process at all.

Let me put it this way: it might be “easy” to get in, but it definitely is not easy to stay in!!

I’ve noted this in previous threads before, but the overall admittance rate into Berkeley is in the low 20s%. If you are an out-of-state or international student, then the admittance rate is roughly comparable to Ivy League schools with higher admittance rates.

^… With the exception of this year - the UC’s admitted more OOS students because of Cali’s financial problems.

Basically, if you have good grades and a good SAT score, you’re in.

get nearly straight A’s and 2200+ and you’re pretty much a shoe-in. You don’t need to have these stats, but having them is probably the easiest way in.

Getting in is easy, taking advantage of Cal is much harder.

it depends on ur circumstances…if you come from a family that endures hardships, and overcoming obstacles, then you can get in, even with the low test scores and gpa.

-coming from a person that got accepted into berkeley next fall 2011 for college of letters and science, with SAT of 1650, ACT 22 and GPA of 3.93,

Is Berkeley easy to get in?

Do you have good stats? :)

If Berkeley is so easy to get into, then why do people react very proudly and surprised when you say you’re going? Just a curious question.

difficulty of admission also depends on departments - at least i’ve heard that getting into CoE EECS and the College of Chemistry are more difficult than others
