Is Bing for me?

Hi CC,

This is my first post, but a long time lurker.

I'm a sophomore in high school with about a 92 average. My sister goes to Bing and is graduating in a couple of weeks. She absolutely loves it.

Education wise, I know this is the school for me. I'm a computer science guy and I know the Watson school would fit me just fine. I know people are saying you need at least a 94 to get into Bing but in the graduating class this year, kids with high 80's were getting in even with not so great ACT scores. And not to mention I have a sibling who goes there.

But, socially, I'm not sure this is the right school for me... My sister loves it because she says its not like a crazy party school, but its sort of moderate. But me on the other hand, I love to drink a lot and have a good time and I would prefer a good party school.

My brother who's graduating high school this year, is going to Buffalo and he also got into the business program. Buffalo and its reputation sounds like my kind of school, but not education wise.

I'd really like to go to Binghamton and money's not a factor. I'm also considering things like Ohio State, Penn State or like Wisconsin (great computer science programs and good party life)

Help, is Binghamton for me?

Seems like, with a sister who just spent the last 4 years there, you’d have a great sounding board for any questions you have about Binghamton. Alot happens between sophomore and senior year in high school…shifts in priorities, focus, maturity. By the time it’s your turn to put together a list of college prospects you might not be as concerned about where you can drink and party more.

If you want to drink/party, you definitely can, here.

Every school has some sort of party school aspect to it. Some schools are just more well known in that aspect, for example, Buffalo. Even if you decide to attend a strict conservative college, it can still be the party school for you if you choose to engage in the party scene there. Any school can be a party school!

If you want to do Computer Science, it would be the dumbest mistake of your life to choose Binghamton over Stony Brook. No further explanation needed.

[Stony Brook University - Department of Computer Science](http://www.cs.sunysb.edu)

Is it true that the SB computer science department provides students with a free set of luggage for the weekends? Do the students really get to pick the color?

Stop trolling, and compare the departments. I would have thought a Liberal Arts school like Bing would teach how to constructively criticize.

On the flip note, our new CS building is already under construction, and should be constructed by the time you join. We have 4 buildings devoted to CS, along with nearly 80 faculty members, our buildings are more than the entire school of Engineering at Bing combined. :-)

Now that’s a Science school. If you choose to switch to Physics, we also have the 4th best nuclear Physics program on earth, and in Math, we recently were ranked 4th in the world, along with MIT and Harvard in the Putnam!

I heard Binghamton has a great English book coming out, so if you like those kind of Liberal Arts stuff; go with Bing. If you like the Science, like I said before, going with Bing would be an insult to intelligence and humanity.

Bro,

Check the mirror for the ■■■■■.

Evidently, reading comprehension is not a priority at SB

You see, this is the Binghamton thread not the Stony Brook thread.

Scroll up and you can see this quite plainly.

I’m surprised a science guy like yourself overlooks such a simple thing.

Really doesn’t speak well for Stony Brook to have to ■■■■■ the Binghamton boards soliciting students.

I believe in transparency. Along with loads of others, I am hoping that the new Binghamton University administration brings with it more truth and more disclosure. The Deflower era was horrible and encouraged a lot of opaque maneuverings by university administrators. I wonder about people who constantly post pro Binghamton posts any time anyone says the slightest negative but truthful thing about the university. The last post by Yippee accuses someone of being a ■■■■■ while Yippee seems to be a PR employee of Binghamton. So Yippee, are you speaking for the university every time you criticize Stony Brook? A little defensive are you? Deflower was so paranoid and resentful of Stony Brook she spent a fortune building an arena she hoped would bolster sports at the school to compete with her rivals at Stony Brook. What a waste of money! She let everything else go to h–l. Are you a throwback to that era Yippee? The new administration seems to have realigned the universities priorities, thank goodness. Join up why don’t you, Yippee?
