I am an incoming animal science major and i am unsure about it. The two programs have simularities but they are diff schools. I ve looked at the Requirements, and i also know about the new strict policies … i just need to know if ts possible… i really love cal poly, and i dont eant to deal with the heart ache of leaving if i cant change majors… any advice?

From what I understand, switching majors is indeed possible, it’s just a little more difficult then most schools. My new tour guide switched his majors 4 times!! They just don’t want people coming in as an easy major like soil science and switching into engineering. I think you’ll be fine. Luckily there related so you can take classes that fulfill requirements for BOTH majors during the change of major process. I say go for it.

from what I am hearing, it is getting more difficult by the day to switch majors. period.

this year, for the first time, the school registered all freshman for fall classes, to insure they would be on tract for the major they applied to. there is a huge effort at the school to get kids graduated, and as a result, there is less tolerance for those “exploring” and trying to switch majors - I don’t think they have the time and the budget to let kids do that any more. high number of kids and huge budget and money problems have made the whole switching a major even MORE of an issue.

you are in. I would call the bio dept that you are interested in switching into, and asking them about double majoring. maybe that is an easier approach than switching? do you have a lot of credits (AP classes) going in that puts you a step ahead? see what they say about double majoring. at least if you did that, and could not get into bio, you would still have the other to fall back on. just a thought.
