Is biology an major that might impact one's admission chances at UCLA, UCB, and UCSD?

funny choice of words? I don't think that colleges much care because so many students change majors multiple times.

I seriously doubt that Biology is listed as an impacted major. 'Impacted majors' is a designation most often used at public colleges and universities. You do realize that it simply means that there are more students who intend to declare for the major than there are seats available for it? For example, at the U of California and California State University systems, nursing is an impacted major; meaning that the field of student is exclusively restricted to students who are state residents. No others are allowed to enter the major.

yeah I too thought the title had something to do with intestines...

it also means admission/gpa requirements for impacted majors will be higher compared to other ones

All it means regarding GPA is that you will be in a pool w/ the massive number of "pre-meds" who are type A, will raise the curve and don't care one wit about biology as an end goal.....degree wise.

Do a search for "impacted major" at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/ - Biology does turn up as an impacted major at UCLA, UCD and UCSD. However, you should also read this: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/resources/materials/UCCC2005/Fresh_Matrix_final2.pdf which explains how choice of major affects admissions at various UC campuses. I'd also suggest you go to each school's indivdual website and do a search for both impacted majors, choice of major, and biology majors and see what turns up. If you still have questions, email the admissions office at each school --- but I suspect after you've read all of the information above, you'll know what you need to know.

Carolyn, I stand corrected.

Hazmat, LOL.
