I want to either be a psychiatrist or go to law school, so which of the following sounds like my best opportunity to pursue those?

University of Rochester for either Chemistry or Psychology
UT-Austin for Biomedical Engineering
Alabama for Economics
NYU Poly for Electrical Engineering

For either of those professions, it really doesn’t matter what you major in. Your GPA, your MCAT or LSAT score, and LORs are going to make the largest difference.

As for biomed engineering…I’m not a huge fan of that discipline because it is rather limiting if you don’t go to med school or go on for research. Other eng’g disciplines offer more flexibility. I think some kids (not saying you), choose it because it sounds sexy and they think med schools are going to impressed.

Why do you have Alabama for econ, when you don’t have econ as an option for the others? Why not chem or psych or eng’g at Bama? I’m not criticizing…just wondering why the one lone econ choice is for Bama?

As you probably know, you’d get additional scholarship money if you major in an engineering discipline at Bama…also Bama has engineering/pre-med tracks…

Biomedical Engineering limited…? Biomedical Engineering is arguably more dynamic than any other discipline of engineering. Having an upper-hand into medical school does not mean that biomedical engineering majors cannot enter any other graduate study.

Majoring in BME for the sake of med school (unless you really like it) is absolutely nuts. Its one of the most challenging majors that you can take on
