I was accepted to both and don't know where to attend. Which is a better school

You won’t be happy if you simply ‘attend the better school’ based on the USNWR rankings.

Visit them both.

If you can’t, do as much research as you can on the net to gain more insight into both schools.

Nobody here can tell you, a total stranger, where to go.

How about at talk with your HS Guidance Counselor. He/She knows you a lot better than we do!

“Better” is a word that does not work with those two schools. BU is nationally known and ranked higher in most any list. Providence is a regional school, but an excellent one. One of the top in its category. THere are kids who do extremely well from such schools that would not at BU. They can also get a better education than at BU, due to the size of Providence and the attention they get there.

So it all depends on the type of person YOU are as to which school is better for you.

I feel that PC is limited in what I has to offer. I am not sure which one I like I just want the best education

Although I live in RI I always have felt that PC is overrated and a mediocre school

alyssaz:

I think you’ve answered your own question. You think that PC is limited, overrated and mediocre. Further, if you care to measure ‘better’ based on rankings, then BU is clearly ‘better’. (But presumably, you had seen those rankings before you posted this).

So, what question are you asking us?

Lol, idk. I like both. Ultimately I just want to go where I will have the most opportunities. Are my thoughts wrong about PC is maybe what I’m looking for?

The headmaster at my youngest son’s school had 3 out of his 4 kids go there. All are doing exceptionally well in life and career. One turned down BC for a major scholarship there, though the parents were willing to pay for BC. That made a big difference, though, in family finances. One would have had a rough time at a school like BU though the other two would have done well anywhere.

My college son’s close friend is at PC, full pay, and the parents feel they are getting their money’s worth.

I’ve seen some of the students accepted there and I often question how PC took them in the first place. Idk maybe it’s just a RI thing. I feel that all the kids that’ll go there are either from a catholic school or a rich family where there kid didn’t get in anywhere else. That’s what makes me hesitant about PC and living in RI i see it all too often which makes me think otherwise about this school

Actually I think that PC is getting more and more selective on who they admit. My D was a clear match for them and got deferred then waitlisted. Then just yesterday she was admitted to BU which I think is more difficult to get into. Her GC thinks the same thing too. She told D at beginning of the year that she would get into PC and BU would be a low reach for her. Go figure. The point is, PC is not just letting anyone in there. Most of the kids admitted this year had closer to 1900 sat’s or higher.

That is what I mean about PC. How does someone get waitlisted from PC yet gets into BU. I know admissions isnt black and white but thats what I don’t get. BU in my own opinion is far more selective. In addition BU houses 3 Nobel laureate faculty member and has a plethora of MacArthur fellows, pulitizer prize winners etc. I am almost obligated to say that BU has a more prestigious reputation

However that’s not to say PC is a bad school because it is a good school. I think that BU is better I guess is what I have concluded.
