In other words, will applying to BPE decrease my chances of getting into Stern? and if I am not accepted into BPE, can I still be accepted into Stern?

the NYU website says:

They don’t release information on the matter, but I will tell you that if you apply to
BPE, that is the only program you can complete at NYU. You cannot change majors or transfer to a different school in NYU. The only way out is to transfer from NYU.

In my opinion I think it is easier. They seemed to be trying to get as many applicants as possible; probably because the BPE class is on the lower side of Stern admits when you talk about GPA and Scores.

^but they take so few people!
I applied because I thought it was interesting, and NYU isn’t one of my top choices anyway, so if I had to go, I thought it’d be a neat experience :)

i’m not sure where you heard that bpe is on the lower side of gpa and test scores but that is not true
last year over 800 people applied for bpe and the current class is about 30 people - so if you figure that they accepted 100 so that 30 people matriculated that is still only 13%
so statistically, it is still harder to get into than stern
