Is Brown 'easier' to get into than Yale?

OP, Last year, my DD was accepted to HYPS and others, and waitlisted and eventually rejected by Brown.

To my knowledge, Brown also has never admitted and graduated a serial murderer and complete social misfit like Ted Kazinski either, again because it's more selective [than Harvard].

Did you just say that Brown[ is more selective than Harvard?

FYI, part of the reason Blair Hornstine and Kaavya were so scandalous for Harvard is
Harvard attracts and accepts more academically brilliant kids than Brown, which is without a doubt more attractive for artsy types. Academic competition is more all-encompassing (because ALL kids must go to school) and because academic performance can be quantified, it is arguably more cutthroat. There is more potential for cheating, and cheating is a larger part of the culture. It's unfortunate, but not a fault of Harvard's. How can a pianist or a painter "cheat"? It's just not possible, to my imagination anyway. But plagiarizing IS, sadly, very possible. Nevertheless, you cited two examples of girls in separate classes, and the unabomber is a product of the.. 1970s? That's three people in thirty years, out of the tens of thousands admitted to Harvard. So obviously, Harvard admissions is "less selective" than Brown's.

Then again, Harvard admitted Bill Gates, the richest man in the world. Based on that fact alone, maybe Harvard is more selective?

Didican, F.A. is very subjective, tons of reasons can factor into why someone gets more than others.

Also, maybe you should read into things a little less. Jack wanted to know why you chose UD with all sincerity, not to make a judgment call. The worst thing about the internet is that you never know how to take something that is written to you. Without the tone of voice and facial expressions, we as humans do not have the ability to interpret intent when we are lacking visual and sound cues. Keep this in mind for future reference when you think someone is on your back.

It's great that you chose the school that was better suited for you. I hope you enjoy your time at UD

he was just saying they look into their applicants moreso than schools with lower admission rates...I think.

pm from didican to myself, "This dumb "high schooler" was offer *** a year! Obviously they offered you zilch."

Hope you don't mind me posting this but you are being ridiculous. With the new FA policy that really isn't that much. I get much more than that and never said anything in any previous post about my own FA. Sigh...

"..YA....right....sure....LOLOL..we go from "Brown doesn'r give money" to "I got more than you."

WHAAAAAAAAWHAAAAAA
Pathetic"

Umm...that speaks for itself. But to clarify we all stated Brown does not give merit aid, not that it doesn't give finaid at all. You are very lost - which was established many posts ago.

Wolfman just messaged me saying that he got more money than I did! This is too funny! First he says they don't give money, but when he finds out they offered me 25K...he messages me saying he got more! HAHAHAHHA

Is this an episode of Punk'd?

She's being dense for the sake of prolonging her argument. Some people have difficulty accepting the fact that they truly don't know what they're talking about, despite giving them the correct information 3 or 4 times.

Didican, how many times do we have to spell this out for you? In the world of Brown University, there is no such thing as "Merit Aid." However, "University Scholarship" exists.

Good for you getting offered 25k in UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP.

Unless "merit aid" is some other term that they use for people who are grandfathered in, its the same thing.

3-4(?) people told her Brown doesn't give merit aid and then she turns it into ME saying Brown doesn't give aid at all. I know someone who will get a kick out of this.

bragging about getting more need based aid than someone else...thats a new one

no it was merit aid - yes, merit aid @ Brown!

You can "correct" me all you want - it doesn't change the fact that EVERYONE said they don't give merit awards and I got offered 25K and then wolf messaged me saying he got more. How could he get more when they do not offer money? Or maybe you are talking about the FAFSA money?

oh right...sorry

he said no M-E-R-I-T money, not money period

Well - I do not qualify for need based money - and they offered me 25K

Here:

http://financialaid.brown.edu/Cmx_Content.aspx?cpId=70

Read the second question: Does Brown award merit-based financial aid, such as academic and athletic scholarships?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Nooooooo.

This is never ending. I KNOW with all certainty and beyond any shadow of doubt that the athletes are getting a lot of money. I hear my dad talking about promising athletes on the phone all the time for pete's sake!

I give up.

I won't deny that I probably didn't deserve to be accepted, but I was. Deal with it. I actually feel kind of bad that you don't realize that it's all about money and numbers. But it is. You are going to class with kids who's parents gave a bunch of money and that's why they are there.
I guess you can take comfort in knowing you got there on your own merit.

Don't feel bad for us. We know the world isn't fair; we're not naive.

It's obvious that didican didn't get even into Brown in the first place. If somehow he did, Brown clearly does not screen its applicants as carefully as some say it does ;)
