Is Brown housing mandatory for transfers?

Hi,
I will be transferring as of this spring.
I wonder if anyone knows whether on-site housing is mandatory.
Thanks in advance.

Brown students are required to live on-campus their first two years, and it’s tough to get permission to live off-campus for junior year as well. What year will you be? I would assume that without extenuating circumstances, you’ll be required to live on-campus for at least two semesters. The only typical exceptions to the rule are for married students.

There was also an exception in the past for some upper age (>22 or something like that).

Besides, unless you are much older than your classmates, you’ll be much more likely to get to know people if you live on campus. There does seem to be a problem with space for the incoming spring students though. They have been sending out “congratulations, you will be awarded off campus permission for spring, don’t you want to move off campus??” letters repetitively to seniors in Wriston. (Brown still won’t be reasonable and limit the numbers of acceptances and transfers to avoid overcrowding and retain a smaller class size. Transfers are the secret weapon to increase class size without having to admit to it. And increase class sizes, esp in not freshman = more revenue.)
