I’m applying to BU and it’s currently one of my top choices. I was wondering if it’s a good school for business (especially marketing) in terms of education, finding a job after college, connections, internships, etc. If not what schools would you recommend instead? From what I’ve read, BU doesn’t seem to have very good alumni connections/internships…is this true?

On a side note, how’s the social life at BU? If I were to attend, I’d love to make some good friends in addition to getting an education.

DD has told me that everyone she knows is extremely happy there. She is a sophomore now, so has a way to go still, but has friends in SMG, Sargent, Engineering, CAS, and CGS. All are extremely satisfied with BU. She has indicated that the greek system is present but non-essential, the activities high quality, the quality of classes excellent overall, and has generally been very impressed with every aspect of the school.
If you do decide to attend there, I would STRONGLY advise that you sign up for FYSOP, which is the week before classes start. About one seventh of the freshman participate. In a nutshell, you pay $400 to cover meals, lodging, etc and spend a full week serving the Boston community in your chosen area (e.g. animals, ecology, etc) all day. In the evenings, they plan great activities and have lots of fun - plus you get to move in a week before your roommate! Most of her best friends are from FYSOP, although of course she has made many along the way and in the CGS Study Abroad program in London last summer.

Recently, she applied for and was accepted for a job as a tour guide for prospective freshman. Instead of admissions having to beg people to do this, or pay them, an amazing number applied to do it on a volunteer basis!!! The interview process was very rigorous, and many students were disappointed that they didn’t get in. Says a lot for the school and campus enthusiasm!

The drinking scene is “there” but quite optional - she has said that some people drink and party a lot, but many prefer to explore the amazing city of Boston or participate in other activities. Same with the Greek scene - optional but available.

Thanks for the info! It’s definitely reassuring to hear since I’ve heard so many bad things about the social life at BU. The program seems like fun and I will definitely sign up if I do attend!
