So I got into cal poly for electrical engineering, but i have no idea if this school is for me. I’ve heard people saying that cal poly engineering is very hands on and gets people prepared for the industry but im not 100 percent sure if i want to be an engineer. I also kind of want to be an actuary, and maybe later on switch to teaching. I know that mostly cal poly students answer these threads, but i plead you to answer from an unbiased standpoint. What type of students come to cal poly (especially for engineering) and what is the quality of education like here. How does it differ from UC’s? (the only uc i got into was ucsb, but got waitlisted at davis and san diego).
The best way to know if SLO is right for you is to plan a visit especially for their Open House in April. You should be able to speak to professors and other Engineering students and hopefully get a better prespective toward making a decision. Both schools will give you an excellent education, probably more student diversity at UCSB especially since SLO’s student population is around 25% Engineering majors so that is something to consider. It may just come down to which school fits you the best. Either way you cannot go wrong.
please bump. can any current cal poly’ers tell me how the people here are and how the environment is?
@Gumbymom i am going there this monday.
I’m almost in the same boat as you OP, how difficult is switching into Statistics at SLO? Will having AP credit for stats help me in any way to avoid missing crucial classes for graduating within the 4 years?
Im a little worried about the town of SLO. Ive heard great things, but Ive also heard that its very quiet with not much to do. I love big cities, and Im worried that by attending CP I’ll be missing out on all the adventures that come with being in a big city.
