I am trying to transfer in fall 2018. I will be able to finish all IGETC and major requirements with the exception of Calc 2. Obviously I do not want to wait a whole year for just one class. Are they flexible with that stuff, or not at all?
Even if they are flexible, the business major at UCB is so competitive for admission that it would be a substantial disadvantage to apply without all prerequisites completed.
I understand that, but no matter how small my chances I will give it a shot.
Calc 2 is a prerequisite for admission to haas school of business. If you dont take it you will not get considered for admission at all. One of the main reason people get rejected from haas is for not completing their prerequisite. Also, haas does not required Igetc for admission.
@Vincent1997 if you are at a California community college you can check assist.org for articulation agreements and major reqs. This may help you
@Vincent1997 You should absolutely, 100%, call Berkeley and ask. The worst they’ll do is politely tell you to go away (and that’s unlikely).
Though, I personally think it’s extremely imprudent to apply to Berkeley without your basic major prerequisites done. It may be better to stick around and take Calc 2, then shoot for Berkeley.
@TransferStalker Yeah, you are right. I just do not want to wait one whole year just because of one class.
I’m an impatient person, so I totally understand why sticking around a whole year to take a class seems unbearable, but look at the bigger picture.
You either don’t wait a year, waste your time and (presumably) your money applying just to get rejected, or you wait the year, take the class, and have a solid chance at Berkeley. Pressuring yourself to do things prematurely is a fatal mistake.
I hope you make the right choice. Best of luck!
Hey! I’m going to be applying to Haas this coming semester for fall 2018. Calc 2 is a pre-req and incomplete pre-reqs is a direct disqualification from the application pool. @gexr01 is absolutely right about ineligibility being one of the main reasons people don’t get into haas. Not just that, I believe that taking something as important as Calc 2 after submitting your application is also a disadvantage. Yes for some people its just based on how their schedule plans out but a lot of people try to save Calc 2 till their last semester so that it doesn’t affect their GPA. Yes it’s legal to do the latter but it only makes you look like a weak applicant. Also, haas follows the 7CB not the IGETC so be aware of that.
