Is Caltech good for Bio?

I was wondering what type of programs are strong at Caltech. Obviously, I know it best for its mathematics/engineering angle, but I haven't heard much about it in the biological sciences...

Would it be a good fit for someone interested in biology (not necessarily pre-med)?

Biology @caltech is #1, UCSD is #2, …
according to the NRC ranking.

This post in Princeton board also says the same:

BIOLOGY

1—Cal Tech
2—UC San Diego
3—UC San Diego (different department)
4—Princeton
5—Rockefeller U.
6—Stanford
7—UCSF
8—Yale
9—Yale (different department)
10–Columbia

The former president of Caltech and a current faculty was a noble prize winning geneticist. They have a great department.

thanks! I’m glad… and col2cal i appreciate the other rankings as well :)

Caltech bio is really top-notch. The classes challenge you in a good way, but what really highlights bio is that there are more research opportunities than students. Although there are leaders in the bio field everywhere in the world, these eminent people are most accessible at Caltech with things like the SURF program and student to faculty ratio.
