I don't quite understand how it can be that much easier. True, less pre-med kids take it, but since the class is graded on an absolute scale and not curved, I don't understand how other people would affect your own grade. Is it because of the teacher, are the tests easier, are the labs different, etc.?

Also, I'm looking at the grading scale for chem right now and realized now that the course grade is based entirely on the exams. If that's true, then as long as I maintain above 80% of the points for labs and quizzes and stuff, me not doing the lab reports once in a while or whatever really doesn't hurt my grade right?

Oops, excuse the terribly-worded title. I guess I wasn’t paying much attention when I was typing.

Because Chem 1A in the fall are mostly taken by freshmans, it is likely that they haven’t developed a good study habit and screw themselves up. In the spring, they have better time management and other things that make them better college students and thus a better overall performance in the class. But that’s just my speculation.

i hard it got easier this fall… they’re giving extra credit and 85% is an A… ***

in spring 09 when i took it, they have us 50 extra credit points of iclicker. other than that, i dont see why it should be easier seeing as they both have the same point cutoffs and its not a curved class.

Because fall freshies who take it are ambitious pre-med and are on the “pre-med” track.

The spring people tend to be for other majors/tracks/ Spring admits. The level of competition is just lower.

(so claims my pre-med friends)
