Fiske 2013 says that at CMU the ratio of male to female is 2:1.

Is this for real?

Fiske 2013 says that at CMU the ratio of male to female is 2:1.

Is this for real?

As of Fall 2011, the full-time undergraduate population was 42% female:

At my son’s CMU convocation this August, I believe that the college president said that this entering class of freshmen had the highest rate of women- something like 45%. I think that the college is trying to recruit female students. He certainly seemed happy about the statistic.

What goingnutsmom said, but also note that the M:F ratio will also vary greatly by major. So in Computer Science, a 2:1 ratio sounds about right.

Yeah, 33% is pretty close (if not exactly) the CS class of 2015. Which is not bad for a CS program, sad as it is…but the percentage of girls in the CS class of 2016 went up, I heard.

While that definitely is the case in CS and ECE courses, I would say that when you are just around on campus you don’t notice that there are far more guys than girls. And then since PITT is just down the road the general area certainly doesn’t feel male dominated at all.

Nope. The class of 2016 has 45% female, the highest ever as goingnutsmom noted.

Do people at Carnegie Mellon actually attend parties at UPitt? That seems like it would be rather awkward.

This forum is so dead. Its almost sad, lol.

Yes, some people really do attend Pitt parties.

Some people do attend Pitt parties, but pretty much the only time Pitt people come up to CMU parties is during Carnival.

One time a friend and I were buying some party supplies at a CVS in Oakland. The cashier asked where the party was going to be, we said, “Oh, up on Beeler St.” His response was, “Oh, CMU? Sorry. :(”

That said, I usually enjoyed the parties I went to at CMU more since they tended to be smaller house parties where you could actually talk with people and do stuff other than get hammered.

@RacinReaver, thanks for the info. I’m not * that * interested in partying to be honest, but I’d like to attend a couple of parties in college. Otherwise, I’d be missing out on an important part of the college experience (at least I think so, lol).

There are plenty of parties at CMU… lol, people here talk like all you’ll do is study in your room and everyone’s a dork. I was partying every Thurs-Sun. Although I was a CFA person and went to design/art/drama type parties… many house parties on Beeler or in SH. Nope, not so much mixing with Pitt. I dated a Pitt guy for a bit and still rarely went down to parties there, maybe one? And btw, there’s cute girls AND guys at CMU as well. Might be a bit harder to find but I never had any issues And at least the ones you meet are pretty quality with some smarts and an actual personality.

And lastly, someone here on one of the posts insinuated CFA majors don’t do much work, think again! I continuously pulled allnighters and worked VERY hard but also made time for fun.

^^The CFA majors I’ve seen perform blow me away with their amazing talent. You don’t get that good without working hard.
