Is College Board reliable?

Is all the information from all the different colleges on college board true? I mean the admitted percentage of each different category like GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and how many freshman were admitted, etc. My question is, should i determine whether or not i will get accepted based on the information college board gives me?

If you are doubtful about any of the statistics given on College Board, you can double-check them against those in recent guidebooks, the US News and World Report rankings, or the school’s website.

Except for (usually large, public) universities that admit based on stats formulas, it is difficult to tell whether you will definitely be accepted based on your grades and scores. The holistic admissions process often also considers your essays, recommendations, extracurricular activities, etc. Chances of acceptance vary with each case. If you post your information and the colleges you are considering, others may be able to help you predict the approximate likelihood of admission.

Edited to add: I see from your other threads that you are considering CSUs and UCs. I believe that there is a formula you can plug your numbers into to determine whether you will get into non-impacted majors at a CSU, and there is something similar for certain UCs… though not sure if this is true for OOS students.

Im not going to apply to UC’s, im just going to apply to CSU’s. Im asking this because i saw some CSU’s where people got in with a GPA of 2.5-2.99, and i thought CSU’s dont consider you if you have less than 3.0. It’s just that i hear all this information about what you must have to even be worth the time to the college admissions people and then i see on college board that people are accepted with lower GPA and SAT scores than me. Sacramento State is an example. Im also applying there

Are you a California resident?

Yes, I live in the San Joaquin Valley.

Are you aware of this? <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
Follow the link to the eligibility index.

It’s a partial start.

College Board data is generally reliable, but I’m not sure that they are necessarily using the most recent year available.

For CSU 3.0 is the cutoff point where you aren’t required to take the SAT. Though that still may be a good idea. If your gpa is less than 3.0, your gpa and SAT are used to calculate an eligibility index as shown in this table
https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/cal_residents.asp</a></p>

Some majors and campuses are impacted and thus have higher admissions standards. Sacramento appears to be one of those:

<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/majors_that_have_higher_standards.asp</a></p>

I believe College Board gets their stats from the Common Data Set that most schools publish. Go to any campus website and search for that term for an amazing array of data on the school. Here’s a link to Sac State’s:
http://www.csus.edu/oir/Data%20Center/Common%20Data%20Set/cds/CDS_2012-2013.pdf</a>
You’ll see on page 10 that more than 25% of acceptances had GPAs in the 2.5 - 2.99 range.

Like Sonoma, and SJSU, Sac State is really selective for some programs, like nursing, and much less so for less popular but still good majors like Business.

Calculate your index and see where you stand. (GPA*800 + M&R SAT)

If you are in Sac State’s local service area (which includes San Joaquin county), they will take you with a 2900. If you are outside the local service area, for most majors, they want 3000 or above. Out of state students need 3500+.

With a 2.7 CSU GPA and SAT (M&R only) of 1050, you’d have an index of 3210 - comfortably above the threshold.

Other schools in the system (SDSU, SLO, Long Beach and Chico for example) require a much higher grades/scores.

Despite being relatively easy to get into, Sac State degrees are well respected out in the real world.

Good luck.
